This is a fun and easy thing to do with those little wire pieces that hold in a champagne cork. And with New Years Eve coming up, you know we'll have a few of those lying around!

The resulting tiny chair makes a cute little christmas ornament, or dollhouse furniture, or just an interesting little nicknack! And a neat way to save a momento from an important bottle of champagne (like from a wedding, hot date, or special event)

This is very easy, and some would say obvious, but when I first saw this done I thought it was so cool. And I figured you guys would too !

enjoy!

PS: We made little robots to sit in the chairs out of the corks yesterday.

A wire champagne cork holder (similar to the one shown below) It needs to be one that the bottom wire is a separate piece from the twisted wires running down the sides.

And to bend it: Wire Pliers - bring a pair to your next New Years Party or sunday brunch, and you can be the life of the party!

Super cute! I can't believe we threw one of those wire cages away on new years, next time I will have to make a little chair!!!  For a table I think a cardboard or thick paper coaster would be about the right size, maybe glue it to an empty thread spool or a cork that is smooth on the end so it will stand up.

Well, I guess you'll need to drink some more champagne now :)  Maybe for valentines day?
:)

I like the table idea too... if you do it, be sure to send me a pic :!

oo i like it You can do this with Solder and a bottle top if you dont have a champage top around . Very nice . Any ideas on a table
filthyfury in reply to stephenniallJan 30, 2009. 7:02 PM
maybe you could use a soup can top and twit some wire for legs then solder those to the bottom, you'd have to solder around the edge of the can too of coarse

haha i meant to type "twist" not "twit", oops

Ooh this is so nice!

Any ideas how to add a suitable table? perhaps from a regular wine bottle cork?

How about a cafe style table made out of gumwrapper? About 2 inches high so the scale should be about right.

How about making the table from the bottle. Carefully cut off the bottle base to use as the table top, and part of the neck to use as the table base. wet saw to cut bottles

Use thin slices of the cork as placemats. Probably some way to highlight the dimple in a champagne bottle too -- pour in a little water and make floating flowers out of the foil as the table centerpiece?

One of those plastic pieces used to support pizza boxes would be crude, yes, but with a little fancy textured spraypaint might be satisfactory.

there ya go... open multiple bottles, (shouldn't be hard tonight) and, viola, you've got a table and chairs.

Not sure about a tab le. obviously, if you don't add the back you can have a little side table. But not sure on creating more of a cafe table. Anyone have any ideas? Share them!
cjpetit in reply to DotatDabbledSep 2, 2012. 1:33 PM
use a cork from the champagne and a small coaster. Glue or not and use as many leg (corks) as you want!

this particular table looks more like a card table. ;) Could paint it green or put felt on it, some tiny buckets (foil or something) to hold chips, cards, etc.... and you've got a start to a mini game table. :)

Very cool. A friend of mine use to make little turtles like that. I'm not a 100% sure how, but I think instead of removing the base wire he'd smash it down to form 4 stubby legs, and then the head was made from the longest part that you untwist. I don't know, I guess I'll figure it out tonight. :)
stencilgrafitti in reply to demxod8Jan 2, 2009. 6:32 PM
yep, I make turtles every time i see these guys. If you're crafty nearly all of the work is smushing the whole thing down, making the legs, and the head is just the re-twisted bit that isn't the legs.

I like it! Maybe add some arms or make a rocker?

I've been making chairs like this for many many years, albeit a slightly different way. I always carry a Leatherman so always have pliers on me. It's really a fun little thing to do and it's amazing how many people will sit and watch you do it and then want the final results.

Made one just after I finished my New Year's champagne. Very cute. My kids might use it with their dolls.

The company Design Within Reach runs a contest every year about exactly this: design the coolest chair out of only champagne bottle materials. A previous art class of mine entered a couple years back, and, well, we didn't win. But the ones that did were really, really innovative and cool. You should enter this and/or anybody else here that feels inspired should try their hand at it!
