Make a Smoke Bomb out of Ping Pong Balls

Have any ping pong balls lying around? I have an idea... how about making a few easy and effective smoke bombs out of them? Everyday household materials is all you will need. Very useful for paint ball or air soft matches, or just to have fun.

Materials:

1.) Ping Pong Balls (4 or 5 is enough for one well done smoke bomb)
2.) Scissors
3.) A Straw
4.) Aluminum Foil
5.) A Lighter or Matches

Optional:
- A Drill

Preparing Time: About 3-5 Minutes

Step 1 Making A Hole

So first, go ahead and Grab a ping pong ball. Grab the scissors and anywhere you'd like poke and make a whole about the width of an average pen. If you have a drill, just go ahead and drill a hole as well.

IMPORTANT, Make sure you only make 1 hole!!!

if you want to throw just leave the straw out and ceal off the whole by sticking in a large peice of pingpong ball into the whol so that the outer shell covers that whol wrap it in tinfoil burn and throw

Can you stick a fuse down the "chimney" of the bomb to light it instead of heating the bottom?

Because it says burn a hole in the bottom when really you should just heat up the hottom with a lighter

cut up 5 balls use NO fuse just heat the botton of the foil until you get smoke, WARNING: smoke is poisonous

Why is this necasarry to cut them up? They aren't used in any other steps.

you cut up the other ping pong balls and then stuff them inside the one with the hole you drilled. and that is what is making all the smoke.......

Okay someone help me out. I think I did everything right, but it took like ten minutes to light, and after it was lit it smoked for three seconds, and then it burst into flames. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

The reason everybody is asking "what did I do wrong?" is that the formula is too inconsistent. Wrong brand of balls, not enough tinfoil, too many balls, to little, too long under a flame, etc. When making an instructable I suggest the author be a little more scientific.

I really wouldn't suggest doing it at all, really. There are much safer and way more effective ways of making smoke bombs, like sugar + salt peter. Look it up on Youtube.

Me and my mate wanted to know any ideas for making this stronger (We're having trouble getting hold of potassium nitrate), we've tried just using the pingpong ball and it worked, we then tried using bits inside but it burst into flames so any ideas? btw thnx to vic for coming up with the base idea.

You can find potassium nitrate being sold in garden shops as "salt peter". Easy, cheap, awesome.

if your having trouble getting KNO3 (potassium nitrate), i believe potassium chlorate will also work as an oxidizer.(found in the shelves of a pharmacy, forgot what it's for, i'll look into that.

don't do this it is absolutely stupid, when you do it you are burning PVC plastic and iit of course generates toxic fumes that give you HORRIBLE brain damage, ping pong balls are not for smoke bombs

And then what happens to the smoke? Does it fly up to heaven where the angels use it add zing to their roasts? Does it dissipate into space where it gets sucked into a black hole and forgotten? Does it simply disappear as soon as you don't breath it in?

Or does it pollute the atmosphere, potentially drift off and get inhaled by people who aren't as "naturally enlightened" as you, and just generally contribute to every global health and enviromental crisis scientists have been shoving down our throats for the past three decades?
