make a "taser" on the cheap using a Piezoelectric igniter from a candle lighter.

Materials:
Candle lighter
Project box
Solder
Electrical tape
Epoxy
Hot Glue

Tools:
Drill
Dremel (rotary tool)
Soldering iron

Note: I understand that this isn't a real Taser, or stun gun for that matter. It puts out around 10,000 volts, but with an unreasonably low amperage; too low to harm someone. You can feel it but the pain it inflicts is minor. This project was made just for fun, and isn't meant for self defense.

here are some videos of me messing with my piezoelectric "taser"

and7barton this is just suppose to be for an easy to make very inexpensive "tazer". you do have to get so mad.
nutsandbolts_64 says: Jul 4, 2010. 12:51 AM
I remember me and my friend once joking about sticking a piezoelectric thing to a capacitor. Now that will hurt! Plus it would be possible for it to called a stun gun for self-defense, but I advise testing it first before actually go on a shocking spree lol.
nutsandbolts_64 says: Jul 4, 2010. 12:57 AM
lol, also try wiring this to a mouse, so when a guy clicks he'll get a surprise...
Colonel88 says: Sep 12, 2009. 6:54 AM
PLEASE this isn't a freakin taser. Taser shoots out a plug and shocks the person s obad hes paralyzed for like 10 seconds. this isn't a taser. It's just a shocker so don't call it taser.
pyroal says: Dec 29, 2009. 8:12 PM
taser doesn't have to shoot two electrodes (prongs)
DrStoooopid says: Dec 31, 2007. 3:09 PM
the voltages generated by a piezoelectric lighter aren't enough to offer any sort of protection that a 'tazer' would, and it's irresponsible for you to label it as such. Perhaps "shockbox" or "shock gag" or anything but "tazer" would've been appropriate.
fjkl; says: Oct 9, 2009. 2:59 PM
chill out stoooopid, it is not irresponsible of him

ok, that's it. this instructable was the last straw. I am so sick and goddamn tired of people calling anything that can jump a spark, a taser. so help me god, the next person I hear call something a taser, I'm getting a real taser, sticking them in the back of the legs with it, and I will meniacally laugh in the background as they die of heart failure. this is more of a stun gun than anything. a taser, fires two contacts out of the barrels, and stick to the subject. there is another type that uses beams of water, and I barely let that one fly. image 1, is a taser, image 2, is a stun gun.

Could use a water pistol to transfer 300v from the Kodak camera .

hey, this guy probably worked hard on this and its not easy to make a taser, id like to see u make one, post it as soon as you. it has to meat your standards of being a real taser. good luck
bleachworthy says: Mar 21, 2008. 10:24 PM
Probably; that is the key word here. And with the proper machining tools (lathe and any milling machine) I could easily make one that fires the contacts, being powered by a simple disposable camera. Also, how is dismantling a barbecue starter hard work?
Pie_eata says: Dec 18, 2007. 8:36 AM
then why does image one say "Police Stungun" ?
drummonkey92 says: Jan 21, 2008. 11:50 AM
yeah
Taboo says: Jun 30, 2008. 9:18 PM
Its a taser, people just have wrong labels, he is correct up there

ask someone with a little knowledge about them.

"Don't taser me bro! Don't taser me bro!" :) Sorry, I just had to :-)

NarNar says: May 17, 2009. 8:39 PM
ACTUALLY it's "Don't tase me, bro!"
JFStan says: Dec 6, 2007. 7:36 AM
I hear ya, bleachworthy, it bugs me too. Also, Tasers do not TASE. It's not a verb; Taser is a brand name.
Garth Knight says: Dec 6, 2007. 1:59 AM
I have a cat named Taser. He has been used (effectively) for home defence in the past...
jeffconnelly says: Dec 16, 2007. 3:35 AM
yeah, well, there's also a boat called a taser.

lol, that's a bit different.
trf says: Aug 7, 2009. 7:24 PM
Does this thing hold a charge once pressed or does it have to be on the skin when pressed?
deaniscoolproductions says: Jun 10, 2009. 1:51 PM
does it shock you
and7barton says: Apr 3, 2009. 2:28 PM
NONE of the featured "TASERS" are capable of anything like a proper Taser would do - like giving out continuous crackling spark. For this you need an induction coil, capacitor, battery and interrupter. I've built Tesla Coils, capable of giving out three-foot long continuous arcs, but they have all be enormous in size and floor-standing. Surely some genius on here can come up with a proper Taser design ?
urbosssez says: Oct 18, 2008. 9:23 PM
yeah this actually hurts a bit the only problem is that piezo igniters dont give out a continuous shock it'll only give it for a split second so u can actually cause muscle spasms and whatnot
shocking says: Oct 17, 2008. 4:29 PM
hey if u got like 5 of theses and attached all the wires to screws that would make it 50,000 volts ae? also does it hold da bold like a real taser or does it have a capasitator?
Noodle god says: Sep 7, 2008. 12:40 AM
put your tounge on a 9 volt battery thats how powerful this is.
pyro13 says: Dec 6, 2007. 3:04 PM
Gr. This is NOT a tazer. This does not give off enough voltage to even cause a muscle spasm. Completely useless as a tazer, but it does make a nice electric igniter.
112251919112 says: Aug 18, 2008. 12:42 PM
u try make a tazer that gives off 50,000vlts! its closer than rubbing ur feet on a carpet.
Ora says: Dec 6, 2007. 6:51 PM
I agree this is not a taser, but if you place the leads correctly on a muscle, you can get a small spasm. It works on the large muscle below my thumb on the pal of my hand, and my tongue.
