Doesnt look to effective. I have a inch long swissarmy folding knife and a larger knife disquized as a key. Just other options to small self defense tools. I really like they key. It was only 2 dollars but very useful and sharp I sharpened the point so it can allso stab.

A little hard to hold.

PlastiDip could work for a handle. Then still with the paper to save your wallet, coat, etc.

I bet it would hurt just as much if you left the blade the way you bought it.
Dec 2, 2008. 3:00 PMmazeka.14 says:
the idea is self defense not assassination. ;)
Apr 16, 2009. 7:40 PMac-dc says:
I think it would be the opposite. For self defense a shallow tear cut is effective in warning someone and producing a lot of visible blood without deadly damage to organs, but a ground-down blade would cut deeper and do more permanent harm, but the cleaner cust would not necessarily cause as much pain and startle the aggressor as much in the next few seconds.

oops you right, i must been tired that day.

Seriously!?
Jan 17, 2008. 6:35 PMFitwit says:
This would not be a self defense item. Guaranteed loss of your own blood. But, a great utility tool idea.
Apr 16, 2009. 7:35 PMac-dc says:
Indeed, plus when law enforcement sees a homemade cutting device they call it a weapon more readily than an off the store shelf _small_ pocket knife. When they see that someone took the time to make such a thing, they tend to assume a person planned ahead about using it as a weapon and knew of a danger but put themselves into that danger anyway, just as they would if someone carried a large combat knife instead of a small pocket knife.

just buy a cheap knife cause you could cut yourself while tring to use this

what's with the sand paper why no grind i?
Sep 6, 2008. 6:42 PMblakdragon19 says:
so you don't heat it up so much that the tempered steel becomes "untempered"

Shouldn't you dip the end you hold in a liquid rubber coating thing? I'm not sure what its called but you dip it into this thick solution that coats and seals it in this thick covering so it will not injure your hands in use. Nice instructable though.
Mar 4, 2008. 4:55 AMHuray4Insanity says:
they have he special dip comes in a paint can its made for redipping the handels of old tools like pliers or hammers and stuff or you could just use latex paint
Jan 11, 2008. 8:41 PMHands Without Shadows says:
Its called Plastidip, you can buy cans of it at most hardware stores. I wouldn't add it to this knife because now you could use it as a saw.
Jan 5, 2008. 10:03 AMcry_wolf says:
Ah, see i was looking at this from a totally different perspective. As in a situation where self defense would be needed. In your case, thats perfect. I'm gonna make one too, but where can i can saw blades, i'm only 14. :D
Oct 4, 2008. 2:22 PMThelonelysandwitch says:
use the blade from an old pair of scissors.
Jan 5, 2008. 10:26 AMWeissensteinburg says:
"but where can i can saw blades"

I'm assuming you mean "where can I get"? If your dad has a hacksaw (chances are he does) he probably has a handful of extra blades. If not, you should be able to get some at any hardware store, or possible (A big possibly) a dollar store, if you've got a big one near by.
Jan 5, 2008. 7:00 PMcry_wolf says:
Sorry that was a weird mistake. Ok, thanks a lot!
Jan 5, 2008. 2:33 PMGorillazMiko says:
Nice job, it looks pretty cool, I might try it out.
