Step 5: Arms and tail

Now you should have the arms and tail done. Here are what my monkey's arms look like unstuffed.

The second picture is of all of the pieces. The ears haven't been made yet, they're just a piece of sock.

For your tail you can either stuff it or make a small strip of material. When I made mine I stuffed it but made it to fat and short and when I sewed it on it didn't look, er, right. So I made it a strip of cloth.
Here is my sock monkey - Nora! She's ok... Not great but hey, it's my first sock monkey! I've even made her a t-shirt!
Hey what size socks do you need? Im so glad I found this
I made a sock monkey before i saw this 'ible and this is almost the exact may i made mine! Only a few differences.

Good job!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

My munkey is sooo cool! His name is Hanes :D

 I should post a pic, shouldn't I?
:D Yes you should!
Here you go :D Actually, what you could do is take the images from the comments and put them in the last step of your 'ible. As I said, his name is "Hanes," probably because it is tattooed on the back of his head xD I did some size adjustments so that his skinny legs would match his body. I also cut the entire toe part off and sewed it back on so he would have a neck. I didn't really get how you made the muzzle until I finished, so His face is a tiny bit flat. This is the best animal I've made entirely by myself so far, and I have made... 4? My mom helped me sew two of them. Also, since the sewing machine is broke, it's all done by hand :D P.S. enter this in the craft skill contest (I think you can), I'll vote for you!
so cute i love it hehe!!!
He's really cute! :D That's a really good idea, I'll do that later tonight. Haha that's awesome that his name is tattooed on the back of his head :P I thought the instructables had to have been published after a certain date though?
Oh... I wouldn't know exactly. I put in my steampunk flashlight, Just posted on the 30th. If you could, could you check it out and rate? :P

I'm surprised my 'ible only has a 2.9 or something... I thought it looks pretty good...
I really like how your monkeys aren't spindly and are more stuffed animal like and so i am just wondering what size/how long of a sock/socks did you use?
They were mostly girls knee highs, I can't remember what size though.
My "sock monkey" looks a little different
i am going to make a ninja sock monkey!
This is really great! I always wanted o know how to do this. I'm going to give one to my girlfriend for christmas :D Ill be sure to post a picture when im done! Thank you!
Thanks :D They're so much fun to make!
I can't wait to see a picture of it :D
This is him! What do you think?! I haven't done a heart, but I might try and add a little black one!
i love him!! cute!
He's really cute! :D
looks like a ninja COOL
Hehe I never even noticed that!
Did you get the idea off of http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1104 lol they look like the same sock *different wording on directions :D

Love the idea, though. :D I always wanted to know how to make a sock monkey!!!!! :D
I think I did lol. I always saw those sock monkeys in stores and stuff and wanted one :D
I made it! It took me like 3 or 4 days to finish it after many errors. I sprayed it with my perfume, put it in a box. My gf really liked it!! Thank you! :)
Cool! I'm glad this helped you :D
I made a sock monkey but it came out HORRIBLE! I'll try again some other time. but seriously it was so ugly! I didnt sew it so good so it arm is like slightly hanging.. :P
Aww that's too bad. Hopefully it will come out better next time :D
Im gonna just cut up an old plushie or something to stuff my sock monkey. No one uses those I have like 2 barrel fulls of plushies no one touches! If not, I'll use some cotton swabs or something :P
I used to have so many plushies! I wonder where they all went...
This is awesome! Can I use the inside pillow thingy to stuff it?
Thanks! The inside pillow thingy?
Sorry, I mean the 'fillings' in the pillow. Can I use that to stuff the monkey?
Oh yeah that would work, if you want to sacrifice a pillow.
oh my gosh! THANK YOU sooooo much for this! I have been wanting to make my son a sock monkey, but I didnt know how ... Now I can personalize his little monkey for him ... this little project is sooo special and personal for me, you have no idea! Thank you .. Thank you ... Thank you! =)
I'm so glad this could help you!!
it is hard to sew them on.... :(
It is :( And then it's hard to get them even. But then once you're half way done sewing them on it gets a lot easier :D
I love this project! My sister got one (store-bought) for Christmas and I've wanted one for a while. I had my husband's old ARMY socks laying around and that's how my sock monkey was born!! :-) I put velcro on the arms and then decided to give him longer hair. The heart is an iron-on patch (i got a little lazy) What do you think?
I love his hair! He's so cute! Hehe I would have probably used an iron on patch if I had one, I don't really like sewing things on to something when I'm nearly finished.
thanks! :-) i'm glad you like him!
my boyfriend love it! thank u :)
Good! :D
I went a bit crazy and made sock monkeys for Christmas gifts. :)
Cute! Did the people you gave them to like them?
Everyone _really_ seemed to like them, and thanks for the guide! I've actually been asked to make more...! I am just having a hard time finding intersting socks to use. Cotton is a lot nicer than anything with nylon, but hard to find in patterns for some reason.
That's good! I have a hard time finding cool socks to use too sometimes, because I already used all of my cool ones XD
I love this! It's so cute! I just used your instructions to make one, but I foolishly used toe socks so I had to do lots of extra sewing to make them into round-ends first! And then I had no heel for his mouth! But it's done, and I love it!! Thanks so much for this! :D
I'm glad to hear that you made one and that you like it :D Thanks!!
Aww this is so cute! I love the little heart you put on at the end! I'm going to start mine now! Thanks so much for the instructions! :)
wow this is an amazing instructable. i am so trying that tomorrow!!!!!!! thanks!
