Introduction: Make a Wire Lizard

inspiration came from https://www.instructables.com/id/Wire-Scorpion/

I was asked by a friend to make a wire lizard...  so I modified the instructable (above) and this is the result...

sorry about the pictures. they were taken with my camera phone

Step 1: Gather Materials

you will need 11 wires, aproximately 6-8 inches in length. I liborated these from cat5 ethernet cable.

Step 2: Starting the Tail

starting with 5 wires.
choose one and loosly wrap around the other 4 untill the end is completely finished

then start wrapping another wire.  if you are wrapping too loosly, you can press them together more
do this untill you are complete with all but 2 wires.

Step 3: Finish the Tail

the final two wires simply get twisted together to form the point of the tail.
the tail will be aproximately 2x the length of the finished body. (more on that later)

Step 4: Prepare the Body and Legs

set the tail asside for now.

and pick up all of the other wires (there should be 6)
and fold them loosly in half

you want the loops to finish in the same direction.

example if you have the top of the loop finishing on the right side (as I do)  then all of the loops should match this.

the finished product will look better if you do.

Step 5: Adding the Body and Legs

slip the loops over the untwisted tail wires and tighten as much as you can ( without killing yourself)
they will be very loose and confusing, the tighter you make them, the better the finished product will be

Step 6: Starting the Body

start with the very bottom wire, cross all of the wires and loop it around the front of the other wires. it should finish on the same side as it started, but in front of the other wires.

complete this process with the next wire up from the bottom

this will make an x on the body of the lizard

the tighter you make these in the next few steps the happier you will be with the finished product

Step 7: Continuing the Body

skip the next  set of wires and cross over  the set directly after

this will leave you with one set of wires behind. (this will be the start of the back legs)

once you have crossed your second row. skip another row and cross the third

Step 8:

continue skipping to have 3 wires on either side....

(these are the legs)

then continue the crossing pattern

you will be (ultimately) crossing all three wires 3 times total on each side....

I judge the number of crossings by the length of the wires... my wires stay aproximately equal lengths so i know if one set of wires is longer than the other... that I have one more cross pattern before I've completed a set.

Step 9: Braid the Legs

I chose to braid the legs together. (I like the look better than twisting.
plus i get a makeshift claw at the end...

just brade the wire to the end of each leg

Step 10: Starting the Neck and Face

now that you have the legs braided...

now we are going to deal with the 5 wires that are sticking out the front of the lizard

choose 1 and wrap 3 or 4 turns around all the other 4 in the front.

pull out the top two

wrap 3 or 4 more turns... then cut

Step 11: The Nose

the nose is created by looping the two end wires into circles. and clipping

if you need help... you can use a thumbtack to help you loop the nose easily

Step 12: The Eyes

the eyes are the upper two wires.... again looped into circles and cut...

slightly larger than the nose

Step 13: Shape and Cut

straighten the legs out straight from the body and bend down

the body will give you a cutting surface for your scissors simply cut aproximately level with the body

Step 14: Finishing Your Lizard

straighten the wires you have bent accidentally.
it's not rocket science....

and shape the tail...

admire your work
