Introduction: Make an Japanese Kokeshi Doll From Junk Lying Around the House!

Japanese Kokeshi dolls are now a widely admired art form, ranging from extremely complex designs to some as simple as what you will read in this intractable, but no matter how small and easy these dolls always peaks peoples interest and shows your artistic talents!

Step 1: Supplies

For this project you will need:
a dremel tool( or something to cut a small circle with)
1 Food coloring container
1 Small prize capsule( find these at malls or grocery stores)
Paint ( spray-paint, tempera paint, whatever you like)
Paint brushes
Sharpie ( for decorating)
5 minuets

Step 2: Preparing the Food Coloring Container (body)

For this step all you have to do is take off the lid and pry the small colored part off the part ( in my case green) and wash thoroughly.

Step 3: Preparing the Prize Capsule (head)

Now take the prize capsule and use your dremel to cut out a small hole just big enough to fit the tip of the food coloring container in it, what i did as use a small sanding bit to carve a half circle on each side of the capsule. Make sure the hole is on the seem so it can be easily assembled on the food coloring ( note you may need to shave down the tip just a tad to fit, see picture).

Step 4: Assemble

Now just click both sides of the prize capsule on the food coloring container and your ready to paint!

Step 5: Painting and Finishing Touches

Now comes the fun part! Be creative when you paint, make an authentic Japanese kimono, or give your doll a lightsaber! Remember google is a great place for reference pics. And don't forget the details! I added a wooden staff for my ninja made from a wooden skewer, but the possibilities are endless! Have fun with your new kokeshi doll!
