Step 1: Starting With the Nose

With waste yarn and using the provisional method CO 25 sts. Arrange sts on 3 dpn so that there are 7 sts on Needle 1, 11 sts on Needle 2 and 7 sts on Needle 3. Be careful not to twist sts. Knit 3 rows and then according to this chart:

Row - Needle 1 - Needle 2 - Needle 3;

1 - K 1, psso, k 4 - K 11 - K 4, psso, k 1;
2 - K 6 - K 11 - K 6;

Repeat last row 2 times;

6 - K 5 - K 9 - K 5;
7 - K 5 - K2tog, k 5, psso - K 5;
8 - K 5 - K 7 - K 5;
9 - K 1, psso, k 2 - K 7 - K 2, k2tog, k 1;
10 - K 4 - K 7 - K 4;
11 - K 4 - K 1, k2tog, k 1, psso, k 1 - K 4;
12 - K 1, psso, k 1 - K 5 - K 1, k2tog, k 1;
13 - K 3 - K 5 - K 3;
14 - K 3 - K 5 - K 3.

Step 2: Give the Dino Dragon His Ears

Go back to the starting point and carefully remove the waste yarn from provisional CO for the first 8 sts and place them on Needle 1. These sts are not yet used. Remove the next 3 sts in the same way and place those on Needle 2. Knit an ear for your Dino Dragon with these 3 sts using the I-cord method for 8 rows. Break yarn, thread tail trough sts, pull tight and fasten off. Weave in loose end.

From the same starting point take 7 sts in the opposite direction and put them on Needle 2 using the same method removing the waste yarn. The sts on Needle 2 are not yet used. Remove the next 3 sts in the same way and place those on Needle 3. Knit another ear as described before.

Step 3: Sticking His Neck Out

Put the last 4 sts on Needle 3 removing the last of the waste yarn. Make 1 st from each ear and put these 2 sts also on Needle 3. Then take 2 sts from Needle 1 and 2 leaving respectively 6 and 5 sts on those. Needle 3 contains 10 sts. Knit according to this chart:

WS - Sl 1, p 9;
RS - Sl 1, k 2, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 3;
WS - Sl 1, p 11;
RS - Sl 1, k 11;
WS - Sl 1, p 11;
RS - Sl 1, k 11;
WS - Sl 1, p 11.

Step 4: His Arms and Upper Body

Now there are 12 sts on Needle 3. Pick up respectively 2 and 3 sts on either side, both Needle 1 and 2 will contain 8 sts. There are 28 sts arranged on 3 needles. K 3 rows.

During 4th row the sts will be arranged like this: 4 sts for the back of the Dino Dragon, 7 sts on either side will make the arms, the last 10 sts will be for the belly. Knit both arms by arranging the 7 sts on 3 dpn and k 15 rows. Break yarn, thread tail trough sts, pull snug to tighten and fasten off. Weave in loose end.

On Needle 1 there are 4 sts, make 1 st from each arm and put these 2 sts also on Needle 1. Now you have 6 sts on this needle. Arrange the other 10 sts on Needle 2 and Needle 3 and k 2 rows, then according to this chart:

Row - Needle 3 - Needle 1 (in the middle) - Needle 2;

1 - K 5 - K 1, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k1 - K 5;
2 - K 5 - K 8 - K 5;
3 - K 5 - K 2, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 2 - K 5;
4 - K 5 - K 10 - K 5;
5 - K 5 - K 3, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 3 - K 5;
6 - K 5 - K 12 - K 5;
7 - K 5 - K 4, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 4 - K 5;
8 - K 5 - K 14 - K 5;
9 - K 5 - K 5, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 5 - K 5.

Step 5: Short Row Belly

Needle 2 and Needle 3 contain 10 sts together. Take from each side of Needle 1 just 1 st and put them on the other needles. 14 sts will remain on Needle 1. Use the 12 sts on Needle 2 and Needle 3 to knit a short row heel. After the Dino Dragon has his belly, you knit 1 row with all 26 sts.

Step 6: Get on His Back

Knit the last part of his back according to this chart:

Row - Needle 1 - Needle 2 - Needle 3;

1 - K 6 - K 5, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k5 - K 1, ssk, k 3;
2 - K 3, k2tog, k 1 - K 16 - K 5;
3 - K 5 - K 6, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 6 - K 1, ssk, k 2;
4 - K 2, k2tog, k 1 - K 18 - K 4;
5 - K 4 - K 1, ssk, k 4, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 4, k2tog, k 1 - K 1, ssk, k 1;
6 - K 1, k2tog, k 1 - K 18 - K 3;
7 - K 3 - K 1, ssk, k 1, ssk, k 1, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 1, k2tog, k 1, k2tog, k 1 - K 1, ssk;
8 - K2tog, k 1 - K 1, ssk, k3, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 3, k2tog, k 1 - K 2;
9 - K 2 - K 1, ssk, k 1, ssk, k 4, k2tog, k 1, k2tog, k 1 - K 2;
10 - K 2 - K 1, ssk, ssk, k 2, k2tog, k2tog, k 1 - K 2;
11 - K 2 - K 1, ssk, k 2, k2tog, k 1 - K 2;
12 - K 2 - K 1, ssk, k2tog, k 1 - K 2;
13 - K 2 - Ssk, k2tog - K 2.

Stuff the Dino Dragon to make him look nice and chubby. Use the remaining 6 sts to make the tail, using the I-cord method for 3 inches. Then decrease the number of sts to 4 and continue the I-cord. If you like, you could decrease another time so that 3 sts are left. Make the tail of your monstrous, though friendly Dino Dragon as long as you like.

Step 7: Foot by Foot

Finally you only have the feet left to do. Co 6 sts and knit 5 rows in stockinette stitch starting with the WS. Then knit according to this chart:

Row 6 - K 1, inc 1, k 4, inc 1, k 1;
Row 7 - P 8;
Row 8 - K 1, inc 1, k 6, inc 1, k 1;
Row 9 - P 10;
Row 10 - K 1, inc 1, k 8, inc 1, k 1;
Row 11 - P 12;
Row 12 - K 12;
Row 13 - P 12;
Row 14 - K 1, ssk, ssk, k 2, k2tog, k2tog, k 1;
Row 15 - P 8;
Row 16 - K 1, ssk, k 2, k2tog, k 1;
Row 17 - P 6;
Row 18 - K 1, ssk, k2tog, k 1;
Row 19 - P 4;
Row 20 - K 4.

Repeat row 19 and 20 for 5 times and BO.

Fold the foot to WS and sew both edges. Turn it then inside out and knit and sew another foot. Weave in any remaining ends. Sew both feet under your Dino Dragon.
