Make your own 360 panoramic photo robot

 by 360photobot
instructables.jpg
this is my 360 panoramic photo robot, the idea is shooting in 360 degrees in the smaller time as possible without errors, take the panoramic in a hard conditions and fun!.

this project i take a 1 month and i am implementing improvements, and i use parts of bad cd-roms and hard disk drives.

i hope that it serves to construct your own robot or can leave ideas for another project.

Step 1: Hard work, cut the aluminium!

First, buy a 2,5mm aluminium laminates, draw a circle of 20mm and mark the aluminium.
cut 5 circles of aluminium.

Please could you advise the best circuit to connect a basic stamp 2 to a canon slr camera so that I can trigger the shutter from the stamp program as you are doing in your 360 panoramic photo robot ? I'm not sure enough to risk damaging the camera by experimenting! My project is timing the camera operation after a laser break event

Hi, you can connect the camera without risk using a relay or a octocupler, in the relay case you connect the basicstamp to a tansistor and a relay you will protect the basicstamp with a diode in the relay, the other method are using a octocupler. the relay are not faster like a octocupler , then if you like shutter a fast situation dont work.
visit links:

this link show the conection of canon camera shutter.

http://www.beskeen.com/projects/dslr_serial/dslr_serial.shtml
this link show an example with octocupler if yo like use this method you can connect the basicstamp directly to a octocoupler like a in this example show. the difference is in the connection to a serial port.

sorry for my english.

Please, I'm not a programmer, nor an electronics builder. Can you give circuit details and program code?
360photobot (author) in reply to Maggy160Feb 20, 2009. 1:58 PM
Hi Maggy, check my new photos in www.cincosentidos.cl , i don't have a problem with a 50mm lens (wide angle),and th the shutter control is directly from basicstamp to camera. circuit it a very simple with a basic stamp is not hard to use, write me: patricio@cincosentidos.cl for instructions and code for a basicstamp 1.

how many teeth gear a? how many teeth gear b? I know nothing about servo motors, please tell something about types needed.
Maggy160 says: Feb 5, 2009. 10:34 AM
No help for support construction? Nodal point of lens is not centered in sketch picture 2. Construction is obstructing view of very wide angle lenses. Most of the disks holding the camera seem like a total waste of material to me. I don't see any shutter control.

20 mm? I guess you mean 20cm or 200mm?

Wonderful.Hope to make mine soon. Many thanks

Finally someone that made one of these! I have been working on a similar panoramic photo device but with servos controlled by timers and relays. When I saw your robot I bought a Basic Stamp, solving several of my problems. I have worked out the controlling of the servos but how do you shut the remote control from the Basic Stamp? This may be a too basic question but anyways.

congrats! sendme a photos of your project! patricio@cincosentidos.cl the shot depends of the camera, my camera is a canon xt and have a remote control conector, is a very simple system 3 contacts that conect ground and 1 contact result a autofocus and the another contact are a shot, with a basic stamp i conect a relay to connector. easy, you will have a careful with the time, need a some time shot the relay for the camera shot a photo.

Nice, I use the same Canon camera. I have built a remote control earlier so I'm familiar with the wiring, just wondering about the relay part =) I will send u some picture of the project later (when there is something worth seeing).

Really great. Do you have more details on part names/numbers. I've been looking to do this myself. Thanks in advance...

hanks for write,

the servos are a model BB-02 torque: 3.4kg-cm

i used a paralax basic stamp 1 :

and all hardware axis i used a old cd-roms or hard disk mechanism

head structure with my own hands.

woahhhh!!!!!!!! this thing looks really clean and professional. You did a great job . does it only go 360 degrees(like left to right?), or does it meke a globe pattern? either way, its awesome
360photobot (author) in reply to macdadyabcOct 30, 2007. 9:27 AM
globe pattern is posible, the photo in the intro was stitched in 3 files and 16 colums x 8mpixel each photo, 22534x6377 pixels (143Mpixel aprox.).nice!
