Make your own Sodamix

So, you have a Sodastream and have just run out of Sodamix. You could always buy more, but what if you want to make flavors not offered by Sodastream? What if you want to save even more money?

As you may have figured out by now, putting powdered drink mix into carbonated water doesn't work very well (unless you're going for a Diet-Coke-and-Mentos-style reaction). By saving your old Sodamix bottles, you can refill them with dissolved drink mixes and still use the measuring cap to make perfect soda every time.

Step 1: Gather materials

To make your own mixes, you will need:

• Empty Sodamix bottle
• Water
• Measuring cup with marks for milliliters
• Non-carbonated drink mix that makes 10 or 12 quarts

You can start by cutting the old label off of the bottle.

If you heat the water, you can supersaturate the mix.

Cool. I'd love to see this done with homemade syrups too. I just made ginger syrup. I wonder if that would work? We have a sodastream in the lab, so I'll have to check it out!

I made soda using ginger syrup I made, and I found it to be quite good.

I use any clear juice in my sodastream. Apple, cranbery, etc. Just fill the sodastream bottle with juice instead of water and proceed as usual. Even do white wine! Champagne?

Yes, you are! I want to try your recipe the next time grapefruit is dirt cheap at my local store. I like Fresca and the Sodastream diet pink grapefruit isn't quite the same (aside from it being pink).
