Make your own eBq BBQ Grill out of an Altoids box

Picture of Make your own eBq BBQ Grill out of an Altoids box
For those of you who know me you know that I am just fascinated by building things inside of an altoids tin, but this tiny BBQ dubbed the eBq takes the cake. This tiny little BBQ that you can use to cook up your breakfast sausage features:

Built in Striker
Removable Grill
Utensil Holder
Equipment Holder
Just remember to let it cool off before you put it back into your pocket or else you will feel a nasty burn in your pants

To use the grill, open the lid and take out the grill. If you notice anything about the grill, you will see dice welded onto it. The dice will be branded onto your food whether it is vegetables, or meat. When the grill is removed, take a cube of charcoal and crumble it in. Make sure not to make a mess when putting the charcoal in. Put the grill back on, close the lid, then pour lighter fluid in and light it up. Start grilling on the new eBqBBQ GRILL.Wouldn't it be great if you imagined your boss coming in and say'n, "hey, i smell smoke" then you sayin, "oh don't worry about it, its just me bbq'n in my office!"

Why does the cover need to be flat?
wait whats the coiled thing inside?
oh i see it acts as a heat conducting booster lol
ebqbbqmaster (author)  silentsnip945 years ago
You are correct.
you might want to add the coil to your parts list and explain what it does and where it goes.

The electrical idea is a good one, but you wouldn't get the great smell of a good old fashion grill!

I have an Idea for a solar panel altoids can. it would go around with you and everything. it would be usb 2.0 compatable. you could set it on your dashboard on your way to work and everything else.....

One question...  How would I go about doing this?

what do you use for fuel? and i made this one http://www.instructables.com/id/Altoids_Portable_BBQ_/ and its ok i like this better because the one grill but why do you have to cut the lid why cant it be you open it up and there it is. other than that please get back to me plz.
ebqbbqmaster (author)  Kane945 years ago
I cut the lid because it looks cooler and modern. Not every grill needs a lid. Mine does not need a lid. It is art. I like showing my artwork without anything being covered up.
I just think that the lid would be more useful than the artistic "value" off your grill
You are the Picaso of grilling.

Thanks for the great Instructable! I have a huge Altoids tin (About 10 in. by 6 in.), so I think I may make a scaled up one for camping now.
Where did you get it from?

what is the spring looking thing on the left under the grill leading to the leg
hunter46393 years ago
i used a dermal tool with a cutting disc and cut it as close as i could then used a sanding bit to make it look better

Well, I am from Texas so I tried my hand at a smoker. Check it out. http://www.instructables.com/id/eBQ-Smoker/

This is GREAT. I love it. I made one when I saw this in Instructibles. How ever, I didn't use an altoid box, I went to the grocery store to the bakeing section and found two 4 inch baking pans. I bought two and used one as base and one as lid. Made it to look like a weber. I used 2 inch 8-32 bolts for legs. It holds 1 to 2 grill coals broken into pieces. It works just like a regular grill. For the grill screen, I went to BBQ section and purchased an aluminum grill screen used for grilling veggies. All items are "Food Friendly" or "Food Safe" for those anal enough to be worried about that. Remember: It's about the ingenuity and imagination. Keep on creating.

I'm putting one together myself. I'm having some trouble getting the wire bent cleanly, the spacing and lengths are off. Any suggestions?
Try Heating It till its red hot, that should make it easier to bend, Don't Burn Yourself
I managed cold, but thanks anyway.

not trying to be meen but be careful when you are making this! if you get a cut from it you will need a shot if you dont treat it.

I have been in boy scouts for years. I had many serious cuts. If I do get a cut so what. I am use to it. plus the cuts do not hurt very much.
Whoot go BSA Im a scout just crossed over lovin i made this
Should i remove the lid before cutting it?

What about the lethal toxins (i.e. lead, cyanide, etc.) in the paint? Would you like that cooked into your food!?
I'm pretty sure we stopped putting lead in our paint sometime in the sixties. I have no idea what cyanide would be doing there at ALL. Not to mention the fact that exposing the food to the resulting smoke would probably not just magically transfer itself.

Please take the time to make sure you know what you are talking about before you comment.
why would there be lead/cyanide on a mint(edible) box?
LOL Pwned.
