An easier way to do the same thing is to use the layer masks. Also you want to make sure certain parts of the photos line up. That way you don't have to mask out the whole of one photo or the other. Also I'll often find a complex background to photograph "myselves" on. That way people are less likely to think that you photoshopped the photo.

You can see that I've done something similar to a photo of myself here: http://ladykatianathebrave.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=72#/d2s92gu

I don't know the best program, but this can be done with video as well. There are two college students who have done music videos, that are amazing.Look for Sam Tsui, and enjoy.

Obviously, video editing these days can make you think that anything is real!

Very nice! To make it even more believable, adjust the brightness/contrast on the right person's sweatshirt so that the left person seems to cast a shadow on the right person. Your eye is looking for that shadow and adding it in (carefully) makes the Photoshopping harder to detect.

This is a great beginner ible. I would suggest however to spend time around the edges with an eraser tool on 25% opacity or something like that, and do a couple passes, maybe 25 is too much, 5 might work better to get a "Paintbrush" like application effect, where you use multiple strokes to get the right opacity, allowing for a greater level of refinement.

As well you can help yourself with the editing work if you use a well lit background, and a contrasting color for your clothing, light against dark sort of thing. That way when you go into editing, you will be able to do a majority of the cutting using the "Magnetic lasso tool" to grab the outer edge of your "twin".

Pro's use plugins that are complex to the point of acting like a whole new program within photoshop, new tool sets, and even the layout of the program window changes.... either way, these plugins allow you to use mathematical algorythms that are built into the tool sets, that allow almost seemless extraction of "twins" and can accomplish this feat with cleaner edges, and in about 2 minutes flat.

I love that others spent time to make their own, I think I've been inspired to do one of these in my spare time for some fun! I am a graphic designer, and a web site designer, and as such have bought the "Adobe Master Colection CS4" which includes photoshop. I also have the onOne Plugin suite to aid in "twin" extraction among other things. I realize that is not an option for the average person, as all that software is very expensive. I'll post it once I'm done!

I would suggest taking the blur tool and blurring the edge where you did the cutout. Here is my version from 2007. I also used the gaussian blur filter to blur the backround layer. (p.s. i don't dress this stupid in real life, hehe)

You forgot to photoshop your twin into the glasses. Heck, you wouldn't even need to 'shop it. With the amount of bokeh on the back twin, you could easily get any random stand in to simulate your reflection

Why yes you are right. To be honest I didn't spend much time on this, I was really just screwing around when I was bored one day. I actually was just taking pictures of myself with the tripod for another project, and it was weeks later that I noticed that I could "shop" them together....had this been for anything besides a method of averting boredom, I would have spent the extra time to do it right.

Here is a picture I did of my nieces. I used my camera phone, it has a panoramic feature I just had them more for each sequence of the panoramic shot.

I guess this would be even easier if you sat on something that would not squish or change shape with your weight, maybe a garden bench?
