OK, so a few of us UK ibles gang had the honor of representing Instructables at the Newcastle Makers Faire this weekend. Kitewife, Lizzyastro and I crocheted simple flowers and gave them out to visitors to the stall to promote Instructables. Each one took about 2mins to finish, so they were perfect for giving away. After having made about a hundred, I figured I may as well write it up as an Instructable - A Makers Faire Instructable.

Step 1: Start Off

Using a 5.5mm crochet hook and some brightly coloured (and in this case sparkly) double knit, knot a loop on to the hook to get started.

Step 2: Make a Chain

Next make a chain of 10 loops.

Step 3: Loop It!

After making a chain of 10, insert the hook into your first chain loop to make a slip stitch. This will give you the ring which makes the centre of the flower.

Step 4: Build the Centre

To make the base for the petals, chain one to start the next row. Then make 12 single crochet stitches in to the ring. Use a slip stitch into the first single crochet to finish off the row.

Step 5: Build the Petals

Make 1 chain to transfer to the next row, and then a single crochet in the same stitch. From here make a chain of 6, then skip 1 single crochet of the base. Then make a single crochet into the next stitch of the base. This will give you one petal. Repeat this all the way round, until you get back to the beginning. This should give you 6 petals. Again, use a slip stitch to complete your row.

Step 6: Fasten Off

To fasten off, make one more single chain. Cut the wool, and then pull the loose end through the chain and pull until tight (making a knot).

Step 7: Flower Power

You can now experiment with different wool thicknesses, or even fasten off half way through to make two tone flowers. The most important thing is to share the flower power love :-)
