Step 6: Success!

IMG_2377.jpg
Now hang your traps and catch some bees.  Supposedly the corners of your house/barn/porch are the best spot for these traps.  You may have to move them around a bit depending on your situation.  Hopefully your traps will look like this one after a few days!  Thanks for taking time to read about making bee traps.  If you have carpenter bees at your house, you know you need 'em!

How do you intice them to the trap instead of the home they currently have in my facia?!

Mine also have no problem with pressure treated lumber. My alternate method involves a tennis racket and my shoe. Very effective as they fly slowly and are big. I think I'll try this though. Thanks for the idea.

Wow, this instructable brought a tyraid of responses. It is a great idea. It all depends on your situation and location. I have them in the facia board of a shed,
and I can hear them from inside. I inadvertantly blocked them by putting up an eaves trough in the fall. I haven,t seen any this year so far. I was blaming my teenage kids for drilling holes in my shed. A variation on the idea would be to
build that box without the bottle as a relocation program. Sadly, I realized they
were polinating my cherry trees, so no cherries this year. I think I will replace the facia boards with pressure treated lumber and provide them with an alternative housing arrangemant.

They bore into pressure treated too! Sheet metal is the way to go!

Great idea! Perfect for my log cabin. They love to get in to the untreated roof beams.

That's were I'm having the worst problems. There are so many holes I'm scared to find out what the inside of those rafters looks like.

ive been looking for something like this are porch is ruined with their "drillings" hope it works out here , Thanks

Our log house thanks you! Even at our old house, the bees would drill right through the paint on the deck railing, so I'm not sure that a finish of any type deters them.

Great Instructable! I haven't seen any new holes in my pergola yet this year, but the male carpenter bees are already circling my yard looking for a good time. So I will be making one of these very soon! Thanks for the article!
