Making a Night-Vision Webcam

Step 4Pry everything apart

pry everything apart
very carefully using a very small, fine screwdriver or strong flat thing, pry off each successive layer. You may have to chip at parts that are attached by glue (or I guess you could use acetone to dissolve the glue, but I thought that might damage the lense).

I did this very slowly and carefully as I had heard horror stories of people cracking their lense in half.

I actually cracked my lens, but it doesn't have any effect on the image quality at all, not even a line in the image. so as long as you have all the pieces it's not that big of a deal, though it does still suck.

except for surveillance and security cameras, all cameras have what you call an "IR Filter", the essence of nightvision is that it enables you to see without being noticed, IR leds can give you that privilege because they can't be perceived by the human eye, however the camera's optical sensor can. In short, removing the IR Filter will allow you to use these leds and take advantage of their "Invisible Light" ;)

Thanks dude! I wanted to know how to easily make a night vision device and I had a webcam! But mine was a little different. When I unscrewed my lense thingy, the filter was at the very back. I still had to file and pry, but it was much easier than your tutorial. Mabye you want to put that in.
