Making a soundproof window plug from a sofa

Making a soundproof window plug from a sofa
Here`s an instructable to make a soundproof window plug. I was online and wanting to soundproof my apartment because of the sirens and the highway noise coming into my apartment. I was looking for inexpensive ways to soundproof my apartment and I came across this site http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/apartment.htm They had some info about a "Plug" I wondered what that was and I read and it came quite simply to me that it was just a large piece of foam with a layer of wood behind it. If you don`t need it you just quite simply remove it from the window and put it back if you want there again I had no cash, but I had a sofa, a sofa that was to be thrown out but had foam in it. So I thought what if I use that foam for soundproofing. But I still had no layer of wood, but maybe I`ll get around to getting in the future when I have some money. Anyway`s in this Instructable I show you how to cut the pieces and align them to your window with out the layer of wood. You can easily add the layer of wood by just measuring the size of the window and screwing it to the foam and removing the "Plug" when you don`t want it there.

The sofa which I was going to throw out had three foam cushions. I made the measurements and found out I had to cut them in half "sideways" 2 of them which gives me four and another 1 cut into 4 equal long pieces for filling in the gaps.

wow! must be noisy where you are. it would be great to see this with an easily removable insulator, so you could get sunlight into the room during the day and quickly close it up at night.

thanks!
