The WD 40 fly is an all-use fly for fly fishing. It can be used on your fishing set up in many circumstances and conditions. To tie this fly you will need:
1) A fly tying kit that includes a vice, bobbin, and whip finisher
2) A pair of scissors
3) A size 16 straight shank hook
4) Gray 140 denier thread
5) A duck flank feather
6) Hares ear colored dubbing

Step 1: Wrap the Hook

-Take your thread and using the bobbin, wrap a layer of twine around the hook starting from the eye of the hook, down the shaft, and moving toward the back. Stop when the hook begins to bend into the shank

Step 2: Attach the Tail

-Pull off a few fibers of duck flank feather
-Measure the length of the tail

*The length of the tail should be about the same length as the shaft

-Hold the fibers to the hook and wrap them using the same thread

*Do not cut the excess feather, it will be used later
*Make sure the feather is being wrapped on the top side of the hook

Step 3: Wrap the Body

-Begin wrapping the thread up the shank toward the head making sure to cover the duck flank as you go.
-Tie the remaining duck flank back after wrapping it 2/3 of the way to the eye so it is not in your way

Step 4: Apply the Dubbing

-Pinch some dubbing, and with moist fingers, roll it onto your thread
-Wrap the dubbed line in the same fashion as before around the remaining 1/3 of the shaft.

*You may keep wrapping until desired thickness is reached
