Step 1: Wire cutting and striping

1. cut the one end of your cable and remove the outer insulation
2. remove the paper insulation and the extra wire( i know i used black instead of red)
3. removed the individual wire insulation

You can also get twist lock cord ends to use instead of the regular push in ends. That way the belt won't pop open under pressure.

One time I was late for work, and managed to run out of the house without a belt. When I got to work I cut a length of cat5 cable and ran it through my belt loops, then just tied the ends together. Worked well enough for the day. I had always planned to put connectors on the ends and use a female-female adapter or put a male connector on one end and a female on the other (much like this instructable) to make a cool geeky belt, but I never got around to it.

i used duct tape last week.... i didn't make an entire belt out of it though, i just tightened the first loop on either side of the zipper. worked great, just cut it off when i got home.

lol nice belt, just isnt much of an "extension" when you're trying to use it. Maybe theres better ways to make it actually an extension? cool instructable though.

make some suspenders and you'll get a longer cord ;)

please do us a favor and go to an airport with a camcorder and pass through their metal detector, I would love to see the TSA reaction.

that would be awsome

and you can still use it as an extension cord, though not a long one since you don't look fat.
