Step 3 Mega Man's Helmet (Forming the Helmet)

Blue Foam

There are five pieces that I needed to add to the helmet to make it look like Mega Mans. The Widow's Peak, the two bumps/ridges on the top middle, and the two ear pieces. I had found these water work out things with this heavy duty blue foam on it. I used an electric knife to cut the general shapes (learned this trick from helping my wife with her projects).

I did the final shaping with a rasp, and for a little more intracite work I used a Dremel

Do you know of any other place I could get foam? Those water dumbbells seem kinda expensive just for foam.

Understand, I picked these up for next to nothing at a thrift store. So this year I am using hair stopper sink drain covers for the ears. And for the widows peak a piece of plastic (like the frisbee in back). For the other pieces you could use a different kind of foam.

This blue foam ... you said you got it from some sort of water-work thing? I would very much like to know more about what it was and where you got it (if it's not too much trouble)

No problem. As with most of my items, this was found at a thrift shop. The people that I got them from said they were items for working out in the water. They looked like dumbbells with two large blue foam triangles on each end. I guess the idea is that to hold these things underwater and move them around would be quite a workout. In the picture above you can see one of the triangles with the top cut off. The blue foam was very dense for foam, yet soft and a little pliable. I am not sure how else to describe... I hope this helps.

Not to sound obvious, but upsize everything ;) Use a big pitcher for the Mega Buster, Maybe a cheap motorcycle helmet, the boots and bracers should be about the same, just size them for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
