Introduction: Melt Used Glue Back to a Hot Glue Stick

Picture of Melt Used Glue Back to a Hot Glue Stick

If you use hot glue, there is a chance you waste some of it.

Dripping glue gun is probably the biggest reason for the waste.

We also waste the glue on projects that don't work out the way we want.

In this video Instructable, I show you a simple way to collect and melt the used glue to make new glue sticks.

What's needed:

Make sure the silicone can withstand temperatures up to 200°C (392°F)

Search for "moka funnel" in eBay, Amazon etc.

  • 2 x Aluminium Foil Tubes
  • Cork
  • Large Needle
  • Popsickle Stick
  • Hot glue

This is great; I've always wondered if there was a way to salvage the waste and now there is - thank you!

Great idea.

Never seen an easier way to reuse glue from glue sticks.

Thanks a lot for this :)

Great idea - thanks. I have noticed how much glue I waste. The funnel looks just like a tea light candle. I think an empty one with a hole in the bottom, shaped a little could work!

That's a great idea! But why did they come out black? Did you overheat it?

P.S. I'm on mobile and can't see the video right away, so not sure if you explained in it.

I had black glue mixed with clear glue, so it came out dark-ish.

Ah. I've always seen and used clear glue sticks only. So thought the black was due to your method. Just saw your video as well and loved the simple yet effective solution to those always dripping glue guns.

Also, The glue I was melting in the picture was from a different batch.

The end product had more black glue in it than the clear glue.

my guess would be dirt or something like that, or it works the same as balistics gel

HI THIS IS SO NEAT I HAVE BEEN WASTING GLUE FOREVER I CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF THE MELTING POT FOR MY WASTED GLUE I GOT ONE OFF EBAY BUT DO NOT DO MANY CRAFTS FOR HOT MELTED DIP. I MGOIN TO TRY THIS SUCH A GOOD IDEA HOPE I CAN FIND ALL I NEED... PLEASE BE CAREFUL HAD MANY GLUE GUN BLISTERS....OUCH.. I MESSED UP MY GLUE GUN BY TRYING TO PUT MY DRIPS BACK IN IT..

One of my hot glue guns barely drips at all. It will drip one drop as it heats up, and that is it. Another one of my hot glue guns leaks like a sieve. But it is easy to throw glue back into that gun. So I really don't have the quantity of used glue to recycle for this.

I'm sorry but the only thing I got on my I-pad was the tools needed. No link to video either.

Oh, I see.

There must be some problems with the way mobile devices see it.

I will include another link.
