Melt and Pour Soap Making - Home Made Soap the Easy Way

Step 8Presentation

Presentation
I like to make up a basket of bath bits with home made soaps. I usually line the basket with a face cloth, and add things like a novelty shaped nail brush, pumice stone, bath bombs, bags of mini-soaps etc.

I bought a book with my melt and pour soaps and as it suggested specific types of organic matter that is what I added. I had no trouble with mold or anything gross but i couldn't tell you why it just doesnt seem to be a problem. I have used honey and oatmeal with a goats milk soap base, patchouli leaf (dried) and patchouli essential oil with goats milk base, and lavender flowers(dried) with lavender essential oil in olive oil base and with goat milk base , and peppermint essential oil ( tried to swirl a glycerine base and an opaque base, didn't look like candy as I hoped but was pretty )This was a fun , easy project. Does anyone know if you can buy an unscented or more natural version of soap base? All I have found have a lot of their own fragrances in them , still blend nice but I was hoping to make it more hippie style. : )

Hi there! You can most definitely find unscented or more natural glycerin soap bases! I just found out recently that if you're looking for a more natural one, you want to look for an SFIC glycerin soap base, these contain no SLS (sodium laureth sulfate). If you are in the US, you could try these websites: http://www.brambleberry.com/Bramble-Berry-Bases-C11.aspx (for 2lb or bulk) or for bulk only soap (20 or 40 lb) http://essentialsbycatalina.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=879 You could also try http://fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/MandP.asp, but these DO contain SLS. Good luck!

My ex-girlfriend uses sheets of the clear plastic film intended to enclose gift baskets--you just blow on it with a hair dryer and it shrinks to fit. I don't recall her ever having a problem where the soap melted from the hairdryer (I suppose if you left it running on one part of the soap for like 30 seconds it might be an issue...).
