Introduction: Memory Window

Do you have any windows just laying around that you are not sure what to do with?!? Well make a memory window! They make a great gift for anyone and it is a great way to decorate your house!

Step 1: Gathering Materials

  1. Old window
  2. Newspapers
  3. Tape (masking tape is what I used)
  4. Sander
  5. Paint (of your choice)
  6. Paint brush
  7. Stain
  8. Old rags
  9. Vinyl lettering (optional)
  10. Twine (optional)
  11. Close pins (if you use twine you need these)
  12. Scissors
  13. Rubber gloves
  14. Staples and staple gun

Step 2: Finding a Window

The second step is to find a old window. It can be any size that you would like. It can also have multi pane.

Step 3: Covering Window

Next you should cover your window with newspaper so you do not get the glass dirty with paint or stain. Place the newspaper to the edge of the inside of the window and tape it down so that it does not move.

Step 4: Sanding

The frame around the window might be a little rough so this is where you would use a sander. You should gently go all the way around the frame of the window making sure it is smooth. Make sure you do not push hard. If you do not know how to use a sander ask an adult for help.

Step 5: After Sanding

After you are done sanding you should get an old rag and wipe down all the loose dust that was left behind. Be sure to make sure the frame is smooth.

Step 6: Pick Your Paint

This is optional. You do not have to paint your window, you can leave it as it is, paint it and then stain it, or just stain it. I choose a light blue and painted the whole frame of my window making sure there are no open spots.

Step 7: Drying

Make sure you let the paint dry completely.

Step 8: Staining

Pick the type of stain you would like. This is where the rubber gloves come in handy you do not want to get stain on you skin. Get an old rag and wipe down the frame of the window with the stain, not rubbing it in completely. Get a clean rag and then wipe away the stain. It should leave some behind giving it a dirty look. It is up to you on how much stain you want left behind and how much paint you want to show through. After you stain you want to let this dry completely.

Step 9: Placing Vinyl

You can find vinyl at any craft store. Find the saying that you want and read the directions on the box on how to place on surface.

Step 10: Adding Twine

If you would like to add twine to place pictures on your window decide how far under the saying you would like it to be placed. Measure and cut the twine, staple the twine on the back of the frame of the window and tie the end of the twine in a knot. Cut off all extra twine.

Step 11: Finished!

Now you are done so you can add any pictures you want!
