**Disclaimer - I am not a computer expert. This worked for me, but if the computer never worked again I would have been ok with that.**

This is how I upgraded the memory card on my Eee PC 1001P netbook from 1GB to 2GB. The 2GB does make the computer noticeably faster.

Needed:

1) Laptop / netbook
2) small Phillips head screwdriver
3) new 2GB memory card
4) small flat-head screwdriver (optional for prying open compartment door)

Also, I made it at TechShop (http://techshop.ws/). And by made it, I mean made my netbook faster.

Step 1: Preping Your Computer's Operating System

As I mentioned, I'm not a computer expert, but I found a couple of them on the internet and they provided me with the following instructions on preping your computer prior to changing the memory card:

Whenever you change BIOS settings (that includes installing hardware like RAM!) you first MUST disable BootBooster and Quiet Boot before installing.

Once you've installed the RAM you MUST immediately enter the BIOS again only to exit it without changing anything yourself (under the hood the RAM-count will be changed). Doing so you in fact acknowledge the RAM count. After that the 2GB should show up.

Disable BIOS
Power off.
Power on and press [F2]. This should get you into the BIOS settings.
Go to the "Boot" section.
Find "Boot Booster" and set it to "Disabled".
Press [F10] to save and exit.

Step 2: Taking Off the Memory Card Compartment Lid

Flip the computer over and locate the rectangular compartment in the middle. Unscrew the single screw holding the door in place with the small Philiips head screwdriver. The compartment door may be tight and, if so, a flat-head screwdriver may help pry it open.

Step 4: Taking Out Your Old Memory Card

The memory card is held into place by two clips on either side of the card. Press these clips away from the card. This will release the card.

Note the positioning of the old card and how it fits into the computer before taking it out. The new card, once installed should look the same.

Step 5: Insert the New Memory Card.

Memory cards have a notch in the card which you can see in this picture (upper right side). This notch lines up with it's opposite in the computer.

Making sure that the notch is lined up, place the new memory card at a 45 degree angle and apply gentle pressure to gently lower the card below the two clips on either side of the memory card that will once again hold the memory card in place.

Step 6: Close Memory Card Cover

Screw memory card cover back into place.

Step 7: Reboot Sytem in BIOS

According to internet experts, after you've installed the new memory card:

You MUST immediately enter the BIOS again only to exit it without changing anything yourself (under the hood the RAM-count will be changed).

To enter BIOS, power on your computer and immediately begin pressing the F2 button. This should bring up your BIOS settings. Doing is necessary and will allow you to check to make sure that the correct RAM is being recognized by your machine.

If your computer sees the new memory card you did it. Congrats!
