Introduction: Mexican Martini

I was first introduced to the Mexican Martini at Trudy's in Austin, Texas.

Since then, I've been a die hard fan of the Margarita's more complex big sister, plus I adore that it comes garnished with olives instead of limes. Top that off with the fact that it's served straight up and is accompanied by an almost-full shaker, and you've got a drink made in heaven.

Special thanks to friend edbrannan for his own personal recipe and hand modeling.

Step 1: Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Tequila - Use a good silver tequila
  • 1 1/2 oz. Orange Liqueur (i,e. Cointreau or Grand Marnier)
  • 2 oz. Margarita mix (opt. Use for a sweeter finish, otherwise omit)
  • 1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 oz. Orange Juice
  • 1 splash Sprite
  • Ice
  • Jalapeno stuffed olives!

Step 2: Measure

Into a cocktail shaker, measure tequila and orange liqueur.

Step 3: Lime It Up

Roll lime firmly under your palm, or microwave it for 30 seconds to release more juice.

Squeeze lime into shaker.

Step 4: Shake

Add orange juice and ice, and shake.

Top off shaker with a splash of Sprite (or other lemon-lime soda).

Step 5: Pour

Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish with three olives.

Serve with shaker.

Enjoy responsibly!
