What is micro:bit?

The Micro Bit is an ARM-based embedded system designed by the BBC for use in computer education in the UK.

The board is 4 cm × 5 cm and has an ARM Cortex-M0 processor, accelerometer and magnetometer sensors, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a display consisting of 25 LEDs, two programmable buttons, and can be powered by either USB or an external battery pack.
The device inputs and outputs are through five ring connectors that are part of the 23-pin edge connector.

Use the micro:bit as a wireless Bluetooth remote for a smartphone's camera.

Step 1: Things You Need for This Project

Hardware components:

  1. BBC micro:bit Go × 1
  2. Android Smartphone × 1

Software apps and online services:

  1. micro:bit Android App
  2. Microsoft MakeCode

Step 2: Pairing

Please follow the steps for pairing:

  1. Open the installed micro:bit app and switch ON the bluetooth.
  2. Tap on 'Connect' and tap on pair.
  3. Connect the micro:bit with the battery.
  4. Hold "A" and "B" button and click on "RESET" button for 1 second.
  5. micro:bit will show PAIRING MODE on the front side.
  6. Then, proceed for next step and enter the pattern shown on micro:bit in phone.
  7. Enter the code in phone which is shown on the phone.

Step 3: Blockcoding

Go to Make Code by Microsoft and make the shown code using the blocks. Then, click on 'Download' and move the .hex file to the micro:bit drive shown in file explorer

Step 4: How It Works

  1. Place your phone wherever you want it to take the photo from.
  2. Get in position with your props - make sure you’re still in the camera’s view!
  3. Press the A button to take your photo ­- voila, remote controlled selfie!
  4. You can also record a video for an even more awesome message.

Before you start coding, make sure you’ve installed and signed into the micro:bit app. You should also connect your phone or tablet to your micro:bit.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you should see your connected micro:bit in the ‘Connections’ section of the app.
