When I first got married we were fortunate enough to find 40 acres in Southern California that we leased. We had avocado, orange, and  lemon trees in the orchard. We planted a garden every year and enjoyed grain fed beef; all free from chemicals. We have missed that place so much over the years! Food bought at the grocery stores taste bland and are often dry. Organic is much better but it comes with a price. My kids buy organic but we just simply can't afford it, so we try to plant a garden every year. This years crop did not produce because the weather was so hot. This instructable was inspired by the Healthy School lunch challenge and the Halloween contest. I made an avocado sandwich for a healthy school lunch or appetizer that anyone would enjoy.

I guess they are tricky . I had to laugh though because I started one from a seed. It grew over 6 foot tall! I used it for a house plant for a couple of years. I moved and it died because we took care of my mother-in-law and she liked the house very very very warm.

haha oh the amount of times we've tried to grow the from seeds
with here, its the winter frosts that kill them, so we are looking for maybe a dwarf variety that we can grow inside or under cover

Sometimes I find an avocado seed with a small sprout and I put it in water so it grows. Maybe try it indoors until spring and put it in a pot through the summer, and put it back inside during the winter. Do you ever get the seed to sprout?

oh ok that sounds like a good idea, its spring now so it might just work!
i'm not sure if it ever sprouted but i don't think so
thank you for your help sunshiine!!
