I found most of these materials around my house and at the dollar store.
Elmers glue and hot glue
Tracing tool (pen or pencil)
CD or pie tin
A dish to put glue in
Pink and red paint
Step 1: Print and Cut
I got full size templates from this website I found. If you want to check them out I put the links below.
I took these templates and re-sized them to a miniature version. Here are the links to my re-sized hoverboard templates.
Make sure to cut on all solid lines. Also for the blank hoverboard template cut on the second line at the curve on top, not the first line.
The only template I drew were the circles. There are 5 circles. 3 with the diameter of 2 in and the other 2 have diameters of 1 3/4 of an inch.
Step 2: The Body
1. I took foam sheets I had and traced the blank template 4 times.
2. To make the body stiff I traced and cut a piece of cardboard to place in the middle of the foam.
3.The bottom most line on the template is where the bend is on the hoverboard. I bent the cardboard about 25 degrees to make the bend.
4. I then glued each piece together. You can use hot glue or liquid glue. Note that the hot glue dries faster and you have to press down on the body so it is not bulky.
5. I then used tape to smooth the edges out. Make sure that there is no bumps or air bubbles from the tape or glue because it will effect the painting process.
Step 3: Painting!
1. I got some pink paint and painted everywhere on the board.
2. After the paint has dried I took about 2 tablespoons of Elmers glue and mixed it with a 1/2 teaspoon of water. I took the mixture and brushed it everywhere I put paint. This made a glossy hard shell over the body of the board.
3. When you have all the paint out I decided to paint the connectors red.
Step 4: Using the Templates
1. I took the battery pack template and traced it on a piece of a purple foam sheet.
2. I did the same for the bigger circle and covered it with electrical tape or any black tape.
3. I traced the smaller circle template on a CD and cut it out. You can also use any silver material that won't wrinkle like tin foil.
4. I traced the bigger circle on a piece of light green foam sheet. I also cut a small sliver of pink foam sheet.
Step 5: A Sticky Situation
1. I looked up on google a picture of the hoverboard bottom from Back to the Future and followed that format.
2. I put some Elmers glue on the each of the pieces and glued it on the correct places
Step 6: Final Thoughts and Changes
This is my first time making this hoverboard so yours will be better than mine. I am working on a BTTF hoverboard that works using magnets. I realized the material I used was to heavy for magnets but can still hover over a fan. The other hoverboard will use the same templates but lighter material.
