Greetings fellow instructable addicts!

Have you ever felt like having a little caped crusader guarding your desk, refrigerator, work space, or other areas? Need something sitting around to get a conversation started? Are you or someone you know a Batman fanatic?

Then look know further! This instructable will teach you how to make your very own toothpick sized Batman!

Step 1: Materials Needed

Materials Needed:

Sculpey® III

White :S302 001

Black: S302 042

Yellow:S302 072

Blue:S302 063

Beige:S302 093

Sculpey® Tools (Mine came with the Sculpey® Crafty Clay Variety Pack I bought)

Toothpicks

Oven

Optional Materials:

Magnet
Needle Tool
Sculpey® Clay Conditioning Machine
Sculpey® Acrylic Roller
Sculpey® Clay Softener

Step 2: The Head

Roll a piece of Beige clay into a ball and place it on top of a tooth pick. I put the other end of my tooth pick into a block of sculpey that had gotten pretty hard and needs softener, but for now it makes a great way to hold the tooth pick while I work on other parts.

Step 3: Body

Take some black and white clay and mix it together by kneeing and rolling it until the clay is the same color through out. Take part of that clay and roll a large cylinder. Push it through to the head. Using your tools cut down any access clay that you might feel needs gone and to give yourself a place for Batman's legs to go.

Step 4: Cowl

Roll out a piece of blue clay and place it over the top of Batman's head. Take a small piece of that blue clay and pinch it into three triangles. Two of those triangles will go on the top of Batman's cowl for ears, the lat will go down the bottom of the mask for his nose. With a toothpick or your fingers, smooth the pieces together.

Step 5: Batty Eyes

Take two small white balls and place them where you want the eyes. Roll out the ball with a toothpick to get the eye shape you wish to have.

Note:

In retrospect I wish I had rolled out a coil of white and laid it out first on batman. Then cut out the piece of blue for the cowl. Before putting the cowl on, cutting out eye holes then placing it over the top of his head letting the white show through from the back. Live and learn.

Step 6: Arms and Head Details

With your tooth pick add some detail to your Batman's head. a slightly curved down line on the mouth gives him a serious glare. Roll a small blue coil and cut it in half and use it to help shape your eyes. Smooth the coil into the cowl. With the tip of your toothpick create lines between the eyes so your Batman appears ready to strike.

Roll out two coils using the same clay mixture you used for his body. (make sure you still have some left over for the legs and any mistakes you might make.)

Roll out two small blue coils to make his gloves. I took by toothpick and placed the tip inside the blue glove and make a circle large enough for the grey coil to fit, then attached the two together. Using the tooth pick I shaped the hand to give a thumb and the feel of Batman's hands in a fist.

Attach your arms to your body.

Step 7: Legs & Feet

Using the same grey clay you used for the body and arms roll out a coil for the legs, cut two pieces the same size. There are two diffrent ways you could create the feet, you could do same concept as you did the gloves, or you can roll out a flat slab of blue and roll it around the bottom pinch up the excess to create boots.

Step 8: Attach the Legs

Take your newly created legs and put Batman on top of them and press. Use your thumb/fingernails/fingers to smooth the legs onto the body, you could also use your toothpick.

Step 9: Undershorts & Bat Emblem

To create Batman's undershorts roll out a slab out of your black clay. Wrap it around Batman's waist and shape it to size.

To create the bat emblem roll out a small slab of yellow clay. Cut an oval and attach it to Batman's chest. Roll out another slab of black and cut out the bat emblem & attach it onto the yellow oval.

Alternatively you could roll out a small coil in black and place it on the yellow oval. Using your toothpick you can spread out the coil to make the emblem, it's completely your choice. Because this is so small do not beat yourself up if you only get the essence of the bat emblem.

The great thing about iconic figures, an implied characteristic can go a very long way.

Step 10: Utility Belt

To create Batman's utility belt roll a coil of yellow clay and wrap it around Batman's waste. With the side of your toothpick flatten out the coil. With the tip of your toothpick draw lined spaced out all around the belt.

Step 11: Cape Me!

To make your Batman's cape roll out a blue slab of clay. Cut the bottom of the cape, making small triangles and removing the triangle will be fine. Wrap the cape around Batman's shoulders and attach and smooth it to his cowl.

Step 12: Bake That Bat!

Take Directly from Sculpey®'s Website:

Bake at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per 1/4 in (6 mm) thickness. DO NOT MICROWAVE. Baking should be completed by an adult. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 13: Display Your Bat!

Here Batman is sitting on top of the T.V hanging out.

When I made this Batman, I was in a rush, I had three (and wound up making 4) to make in a short amount of time so I only spend 20 mins max on each. (Long story) I am sure I will make more, and when I do the craftsmanship will be more polished and I will add them to this instructable. :)
