OK, insert the MAX756 boost chip so that the little notch in the chip matches the notch in the socket. Make sure its well seated: press firmly, making sure all the pins are sliding into the socket straight. You're done!

Probably should note for people without much kit building experience: you will have to bend the DIP leads a little bit to get them into the socket. This is normal. They are bent a bit from the factory to make it easier for mass assembly robots -- the leads spring back after the robot places the chips into the PCB so the chips don't fall out between placing the parts and wave soldering.
