Introduction: Mix Your Own Nail Polish Colors and Save Money

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.
This instructable was inspired by the Copy Cat Challenge. I wished I had known about this when I was in school.  How fun it was to make my own color of nail polish.  There are many different colors available now, but back then the choices were limited. My son got married a few months ago and I wanted to buy his wife some nail polish.  I was surprised at the cost.  So I did a search and found a cheap way to mix your own colors. So the cost of mixing it myself was two bucks plus tax for the clear coat and the eye shadow. Not too shabby when the going rate is well over that for those pretty colors. Super easy to mix with no waiting time. Mix and apply. A fun project for Mom's to do with their girls.

Step 1: Supplies and Tools

Several shades of powdered eye shadow
Clear coat nail polish
Nail polish remover
A small paint brush
a slushy straw has a small scoop on the end. I did not have one so I used a regular straw
Cotton rounds
Tin foil
Plate

Step 2: Prep Work

Wrap the plate in the tin foil.
Have all the supplies ready.
Place a small amount of the clear polish on the plate using the nail brush.
Using the straw; scoop up a tiny amount of the eye shadow and put it on top of the nail polish.
Mix with the paint brush.
Add more color for a darker shade or mix with another color.
This is your sampler mix.
Play around with the different colors using small amounts so there is no waste.
When you have decided what you like, then go to the next step.

Step 3: Method

Open the bottle of clear polish.
Scoop out a small amount of the color you want and add to the bottle.
Stir with the brush that came with the polish to remove any excess from around the rim.

Step 4: Shake, Shake, Shake

Shake it, shake it, shake it!
Add more color if desired.
Repeat the process.

Step 5: Clean Brush

Use the nail polish remover and the cotton rounds to clean the paint brush.
