This instructable was inspired by the Copy Cat Challenge. I wished I had known about this when I was in school.  How fun it was to make my own color of nail polish.  There are many different colors available now, but back then the choices were limited. My son got married a few months ago and I wanted to buy his wife some nail polish.  I was surprised at the cost.  So I did a search and found a cheap way to mix your own colors. So the cost of mixing it myself was two bucks plus tax for the clear coat and the eye shadow. Not too shabby when the going rate is well over that for those pretty colors. Super easy to mix with no waiting time. Mix and apply. A fun project for Mom's to do with their girls.

I made this 2 days ago and it turned out really well. I didn't use it until today and my only problem was that a lot of the eyeshadow went to the bottom and I had to shake it a lot before I used it. Thanks for the great 'ible!

Thanks for sharing. It is funny that you mentioned that because I noticed the same thing when I put some on today. But I didn't mind the extra shakes when you look at the savings!

haha, wow this is a seriously cool idea
i got given a box of roughly 40 eyeshadow colors..some that would look better on nails rather then eyes!

That is a lot. I actually had to buy mine because I don't use make up much anymore. I have a daughter in law that is a girly girl! I want to send her some pretty nail polish and the ones I liked were 8 dollars. So that is when I thought of mixing my own and did the search. I am making her a kit to go with them. Thanks for commenting and have a super day!

This is great! My mom and I went to New York last week and all the nail polish was $10! I wish this had been posted last week because we ended up buying 3!
sunshiine (author) in reply to rrkroseJul 24, 2012. 9:04 PM
Well, you have to look at it this way, now you know and you can save all that money buying something you really love! I have not bought nail polish in a long time because I am always working in the dirt with my hands, sanding, cleaning, and the polish never last. I am glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting and have a splendorous day!

So true! I don't put on nail polish that often anymore because playing my cello ruins my manicure but now that I am on vacation I have been doing my nails everyday.
sunshiine (author) in reply to rrkroseJul 24, 2012. 9:22 PM
That is great. It is nice to take time out to enjoy polishing nails. I would love to paint mine because I used to have very long natural nails. No I break them because I work with my hands so much. I should wear gloves but I don't!
canucksgirl says: Jul 24, 2012. 2:35 PM
Great idea! They charge far too much for nail polish and one can get clear and relatively inexpensive shadows if they don't have some leftovers.

I'll be trying this one out. Thanks for sharing! :)
sunshiine (author) in reply to canucksgirlJul 24, 2012. 2:44 PM
Thanks for commenting! The clear polish are much cheaper or at least that is what I found. Mixing your own colors is a plus because sometimes I can't find colors I love.

Awesome! I have a bunch of extra eyeshadows I don't use and nail polish gets so expensive. Thanks for sharing this!
sunshiine (author) in reply to Penolopy BulnickJul 24, 2012. 12:16 PM
I have yet to figure out why it cost so much. I found some very pretty colors but they wanted 8 dollars a bottle! That was too much for what I needed them for. I wished I had beautiful hands because I would have posted a picture of how nice they turned out. I work with my hands all the time, painting, weeding, crafting. After I get this entire project finished I will ask my lovely new daughter to send me pictures wearing the polish with her beautiful hands! Thanks for commenting and have a beautiful day!
