This instructable is going to show you a quick process which will allow you to convert a cheap portable cellphone jammer from Chinese frequency's (I think) over to American or other regions frequency's.

Specifically this model from dealextreme.com:

Step 1Dissasembly of the Jammer

  • DSCF1281.JPG
In this step we will simply want to remove the top and bottom plates from the outer casing.

You will need:

- A small phillips head screwdriver
- a pair of pliers - optional

The first thing you're going to want to remove is the three antennas because the top plate will not come off properly with them attached. Next, there are four small screws which hold the top and bottom plates to the aluminum casing, remove these screws and then remove the on/off button from the side using the pliers or your fingers, pretty simple.

Make sure you don't lose the screws, put them aside with their respective cover piece.

Ha this would be funny to use in school or around friends. Guess who's not getting that "Important" text now HMMMMM...???!!! (But still it shouldn't be used for long range jamming because it can be dangerous, like say some one is trying to call 911.)
Jul 14, 2011. 12:28 PMzosim says:
Any one know how to modify this so that you can adjust the range? Would simply adding a variable resistor to control the input voltage work?
Jul 14, 2011. 10:47 PMlemonie says:

You'd need more power, i.e. a re-build. Do you actually have one of these?

What about the Doctor that gets a call to inform him he has to do that transplant ?
When an organ becomes available it has to be transplanted within 2 hours or it dies !
You gonna keep that kidney patient from getting that transplant so you can enjoy that movie ?
I gotta say that is selfish and down right Rotten..............
Apr 11, 2011. 9:58 PMBlackie Ray says:
Chances are if the dr is at the movies, he's not gabbing on his mobile, so no need for the jammer. Chances are also good he's not going to a matinee full of teens jawing on their mobiles so it's pretty safe. When I'm waiting to do a transplant I'm usually at a bar getting lit. So no problem

Do you even know what the chance is of someone getting a transplant? Also, if it is that important, you stay home. If you are well enough to go to the movies, you won't die if you miss the transplant.

Swilus has a good point. You however, say that we shouldn't go outside because there is a chance of getting hit by a meteor.

But what practical use does this have? Anyone who would jam cell phones, is just as inconsiderate as those dimwit cell phone users, who tempt others to use these devices. No one has the right to interfere with the service I and others pay for.

You say that now. But try to enjoy a movie with someone behind you so inconsiderate to not put their phone on silent or vibrate. Sorry but that is the kind of person that deserves to get jammed.

I teach high school and I don't want students texting test answers to one another, You have the right to your service, but not the right to facilitate fraud.
Aug 15, 2010. 6:34 PMstatic says:
Can't the schools require students to keep the phones in their lockers, during class periods? Can't any phone found in the class rooms confiscated, to be returned only to a parent that goes to the school to pick it up? Respectfully how can the kids learn self discipline, when the adults in their live justify breaking the rules, when doing so makes it easier?
Oct 2, 2011. 9:04 AMIncrediblyCondensedBlackMatter says:
just because you make the rule doesnt mean they'll adhere. i was in high school a few years ago, i can say, most everyone who had a cellphone had it in class, even though they were considered contraband. now that i'm in the military, if you get caught with a phone on you in certain buildings, it's a security issue and it will be promptly destroyed in front of your face. saw it happen two weeks ago to this girl who wanted to text during breaks. they smashed her iphone 4 or whatever the hell the newest version is. im not sure if schools could make this rule though.
Oct 9, 2011. 10:46 PMstatic says:
Certainly a school needn't to go to the extreme of destroying a phone. Confiscating phones taken into the class room, to be return only to a parent, that went to the school to get it wouldn't be too radical. the adults would be the only ones that would stand in the way of a reasonable action. What happened to the time when caught cheating meant an automatic failing grade on the exam for both parties, and failing the class entirely if the cheating didn't abate?

Don't be stupid, the mobile phone is an invaluable tool to education, I use mine all the time, for taking notes, to even photographing the whiteboard, but yeah, I hate the kids who just go onto fakebook all the time...
Oct 9, 2011. 10:59 PMstatic says:
Man I'm getting old. No modern whiteboard, we called them blackboards, even if they where green. A cheap snapshot camera was too expensive for most kids to have. No matter taking photos with them was more expensive yet. Not mention actually having the photos of the board would be at least a week away if you lived in a rural town. I agree the phones can be a tool for the students to use, and have to see the degree to what the smart phones will become more useful tools for the students. As a student do you have any recommendations as how to deal with the inappropriate use of the phones in the class room?
Oct 24, 2011. 5:25 PMroland985 says:
I think a bit of common sense is needed with them... Silent mode, full attention paid to the subject of class, and the requirement to put the phones in your bags during tests. If anyone is obviously on facebook, the teacher should proceed to read the contents of the screen out loud to the class, for maximum embarrassment...

Then again, I am a TAFE student, (the Australian form of College) So phones and other tech are welcomed by the teachers, a zero tolerance high school will not, however...

I agree with static wholeheartedly. On my campus, there's an entire building where you get no reception. No texting and no calls. Though the latter can be a major peeve, what's the problem with someone silently wasting away in their own domain? The only problem is when they leave that domain and step into your world: and possibly in front of your car. People who are disrespectful are like that inherently. Why not ban them from eating food, because they chew with their mouth open? The same logic applies to a phone: a flawed logic. ajsims- lighten up a bit dude.

“No one has the right to interfere with the service I and others pay for.” You’re right. Like when I pay to go to the movies, or when I pay to go out to dinner. I paid for these services and cell phone use interferes with it. I do not have one of these devices but I can sure understand people that would be frustrated enough to get one. Judging by your comment and self admitted inability to find a “practical use” I can only assume that you are one of those people that obliviously trample on other peoples rights and then espouse to be morally and ethically superior with condescending comments such as this one. "as those dimwit" The bottom line, If everyone would respect everyone else’s rights, their would be no need for such gadgets.
Apr 1, 2010. 6:53 PMedro3111 says:
I agree 100% ajsims! I bought mine only for using at theaters, concerts and dinner. I finally got to use it last week at a 3-D movie. There were about 6 kids within 20 feet of me texting and talking well after the movie started. I reached in my pocket and hit the on switch. It was hilarious to see them all lose their signal and go to the lobby to try and get it back. I really enjoyed the movie and the quiet. I'll do the same next time I fork out 60 bucks for the wife at a nice restaurant and I don't have to listen to the guy at the next table loudly working a business deal on his phone like he wanted us all to hear. Nice and quiet dinner. Ahhhh. I love technology. I will never use it to intentionally cause grief to another person as long as they respect my rights and my space. The argument static has is moot as far as I'm concerned.
Sep 20, 2010. 4:45 AMElectroBoi says:
You are absolutely right. I don't want to spoil somebody's talking on the phone, but their blabbing spoils my visit to theatre or cinema. So I had to buy cell phone jammer. I do realize that I can be put to jail for using jammer but that's the only way I can protect my right to watch movie without being distracted.
Dec 9, 2008. 2:15 AMwupme says:
Then also blame the Owners of those places. Its not that hard to shield a place so no cell phone works. Put a sign up on the entrance, and its fine (so they know what they're up to) But rigging using a jammer is just as disrespectfull as using a loudass phone in a cinema. Using it in Restaurant (if its on vibrate and doesnt ring) is ok for me. Because if they just talk on a normal loudness level, its the same he would talk to the person next to him. Well i also have it on vibrate in a cinema, like static said, it could be an emergency call or something else really important. But then i would be as silent as it gets when answering, and when its unimportant, just hang up...
Dec 9, 2008. 1:20 AMstatic says:
LOL, I didn't say cell phone users have the right to disrupt others with their jabbering. I said they have a right to to have their phone service interfered with with. These devices interfere with everyone's phone not just those, not those annoying others. Ever consider the fact someone may miss an emergency call with one of these jammers in use? I learned long ago not to sweat the small stuff, the dimwits are the small stuff. And I still don't know of a legitimate use for the jammers.
Aug 8, 2010. 9:28 PMVerga says:
apparently you missed my earlier reply to you. Studetns in school use them to cheat on tests by texting answers to each other. do you think that cheating in school is right , or do you think my using a jammer to prevent cheqating is the legitimate use?
Dec 12, 2008. 12:04 AMnozmoking says:
It amazes me how something society didn't have at all nor even dreamed of not so long ago has now become a "must have" and a matter of "life and death". This is as ridiculous of an argument as smokers vs. non-smokers. It's not unreasonable for me to expect others to be respectful enough to not shout or yell less than 12 inches from my ears when standing in line at the store, cell phone or not. The core issue is that people have become self-absorbed and rude; and it's wrong to defend such rudeness by justifying their arrogant and thoughtless behavior with a "right to use something they paid for" like a cell phone. If thoughtless idiots paid a just a little more attention to minding their manners others wouldn't end up annoyed and desperate enough to start packing cell phone jammers. There are two sides to every story...
Dec 9, 2008. 9:04 AMajsims says:
“Ever consider the fact someone may miss an emergency call with one of these jammers in use?”

Your lack of preparedness for an emergency is not my problem. How did people survive before cell phones? When I was growing up my parents would leave me with emergency contacts and an itinerary of their evening with phone numbers of the places they would be. Further more, they would call to check up on me.
Besides, this argument misses the whole point of my post. I had two points. One was “The bottom line, If everyone would respect everyone else’s rights, there would be no need for such gadgets.” The second was that there are a number of practical uses.
Again, you are right; there are no "legitimate" uses in the USA for one of these devices. There is a difference between the word "legitimate" and "practical".

Guitarman63mm I am not the one calling people dimwits. I am not sure what is so heavy about my post that needs to be lightened up. Are you sure you were not lighting something up when you were reading my post? I guess the metaphors in your reply make me a little suspicious, especially the one about eating. Can anyone say munchies on the mind? Incase you wondered in here on accident this link should get you back. http://norml.org Just kidding LOL

It does a wonderful job of running the jabberers out of the restaurant, so that you can have a nice quiet dinner.
