I made this doll as a mother's day gift for my wife. It's my wife's little "twin"--complete with matching hair, girly dress, and mood-appropriate re-arrangeable facial features.

Plus, she holds a secret stash of emergency candy just for mom, hidden inside her belly.

Here's what you need to make the Momma Doll:

A clean one-gallon plastic bottle (the bleach-type, not a milk bottle)
About one yard of flannel (in the desired flesh-tone)
Less than half a yard of something cute for the dress (I used 100% cotton)
Polyester filling
One 3.5 ounce roll of yarn
Various bits of felt
Scrap cardboard

Sewing machine, thread, etc.
Hot glue gun
Various crafting tools

The entire structure for the Momma Doll is built around the one gallon plastic bottle. Mine was an empty, clean bottle that held Simple Green cleaner, but you could use an old bleach bottle. Whatever you use, just be sure to rinse it out really well first.

Begin by cutting off the handle section from the bottle with a sharp-bladed tool.

Cut out a 9 3/4" disc of cardboard, and hot glue it (centered) to the bottom of the bottle.

I must say that this is not only one of the most creative and coolest projects...but it is also exceptionally well written. I love how you included measurements for everything. Thanks so much for contributing! :D

What a beautiful, thoughtful, well executed present. I would have flipped to receive that! And what a great tutorial! This is one of the best ones I've seen here. (Though I'm biased as a stitcher myself.) Well done.
