I found a piece of his titled "Composition with Color Planes with Gray Lines 1" and thought it would make a nice quilt. (The second image is a photo of the piece, from here.)
To begin, I laid out a paper pattern based on the dimensions of the original. It's not a perfect match, as you'll see if you flip back and forth between photos one and two, but it was close enough for me. The finished quilt measures 54" by 43", so it's not actually big enough to use on a bed. It has spent most of the last few years hanging on a the wall. It definitely adds some color to a room.
The black lines are sewn in between the colored blocks--not sewn over the top after piecing the blocks together. The asymmetry and the tricky joining of the pieces made this quilt an interesting and fun challenge.
Thanks for looking!

Did you know Mondrian was repulsed by the color green? It's pretty funny all the things he did to avoid having to look at green things in his life. Weird artists.
I thought about doing an all-green, Mondrian-style quilt, just to make fun of him!
Great quiltwork, thanks for sharing it!
Old Piet wouldn't like the green in my Mondrian-inspired website design either:

And I avoided purple in the color scheme, so I guess I'm as crazy as he is...
