In this Instructable I will show you how to take apart a CDROM case apart so you can mount a SATA or IDE Hard Drive inside.
----------
This can be useful for homemade external hard drives, and it can be a convinient storage place for an extra internal hard drive.

You can buy sata cables online
I use a sata to usb cable that i got off ebay.
You also need a power source that you can
plug into your mboard or mains.

Are you trying to suck or blow through that tiny hole?

I'm not sure, I actually don't really use the fan much
because I use it as an external hard drive case.

I imagine the fan should suck out air.

I only use the fan when I leave the hard drive on for long
periods of time.

Small hole, but the fan with light looks good.

If you need a box for mobile HDD, then ok, but for mounting inside a computer it is just another heat problem added to your HDD.

Isn't that what the fan on top of it is for? And beside, unless you're running a 10K or 15K rpm drive then you don't have to worry about heat too much.

Exactly as long as you have a 12 volt fan hooked up
it'll keep it cool.

Its not a new idea it's been done before so..
you shouldn't have any problems.
