Hacked travel-size (hardware) mouse + taxidermied (wetware) mouse = Mouse Mouse!
Fully functional, and furry!

Warning: this project involves taxidermy, dremels, and sometimes graphic pictures of dead animals. While there are no guts in this tutorial, viewer discretion is still advised. If you are offended by this entire idea, please peruse the wallet contest or the laser cutter contest instead.

Concept by noahw
Implemented by noahw and canida.

Step 1: Acquire mice

Picture of Acquire mice
Obtain a small travel-size (hardware) mouse. This one is a wired mouse that is way to small to use comfortably every day, but perfect for going inside of a mouse.

Obtain a similarly-sized (wetware) mouse. These are commonly available fresh or frozen from pet stores, or any other place that sells reptile food. It's easier to fit a small object into a large mouse than a large object into a small mouse, so err on the side of caution. You can always fill extra space with cotton balls.

If you've got an optical (hardware) mouse, make sure to choose a pale-furred (wetware) mouse for lightest skin pigment - this will be important later.

AAAAAAAAAAaAAAAAAAGH....oh right it's not real

Looks pretty freaky though if only there was a motor in the computer mouse and scare the heck out of my mum. Lol
there are plans for a motorized mouse on make magazine but without the skin.

Oh my god that's awful... And hilarious.
This is very interesting and a bit strange but still very interesting something worth researching guess I'm gonna need to Buy Research Chemicals to conduct my own study
That is sick. Just no......no
how ironic
wouldn't it be more practical to have the wire coming out of the mouth?

this is very very cruel. mice are for entertainment and joy,not little computer items!
actually no I will go even further and say that animals are for none of the above animals are living things. I'm no vegetarian so maybe I shouldn't say anything but this is defacing a corpse. It's kind of gross and reminds me of this boy I once knew who would torture and kill cats. He was seriously messed up from his childhood so what's your excuse?
Though i don't like it, I need to say that your instructable was well put together and you did a good job.
a desire to create and um.... a love of physical puns?  and again, it was just a mouse.
I dunno I can be really harsh somedays but looking back I find taxedermy incredibly interesting... hmm I'm sorry for my harsh comment. it is sort of cute :), but I still enjoy jackalopes and pigeons dressed as people a bit more :P. (good job btw, I even thought that when I first saw it)
I completely agree

Umm, mice are NOT for entertainment. They spread diseases and can be annoying. Along with rats. ^^
Mice are for entertainment?  I don't think that mice are interested in providing entertainment and joy for you or anyone else.  I am not a mouse but I think that I can speak for all of mousedom when I say that mice are only really interested in finding food and making little baby mice.  What kind of sick freak are you?  LOL

Besides, isn't using a mouse skin in this creative way a source of great entertainment for some people?  I know that I am highly entertained at the moment.
I quote "I don't think that mice are interest in providing entertainment and joy for you or anyone else."

Well listen here sir,

my mouse tap dances. And not only that, he does some pretty darn good stand up in front of my friends.

So next time think before you make a comment like that.
I agree this is very sick I thought it was a fake mouse\
mice are snake food anyway...this is brilliantly creative

If this isn't entertainment, I don't know what is!

It's already dead! Isn't it cruel to feed your lovely little snake with those frozen furry snacks? It's more cruel to let him die from starving

This is a great instructable! Thank you for posting it, clearly both you and your helper are very talented and creative!! :) I'd like to try this, I wish i had had the sense to save my mouse Marshmellow when she died because she was very very fat and would have been lovely to keep her on my desk!
It's very very sad all the rude comments on here, I hope you don't let them bring you down and continue to bring us great taxidermy based instructables!

An awesome and clever idea! Educational!

This seems legit. As unfortunate as it is that the comments got the way they did I really enjoyed the wordplay and the clean and professional looking manner this instructable was done in. It was very thorough and clear. Which is how instructables should be judged on. Not whether or not you think animal skins are ethical.

yuck ..
This is nasty and wrong. I know it's already dead, but didn't you feel just a bit uncomfortable when doing this? also I think it's totally psychopathic to make stuff like this.

Why not just just take the corpse of a dog and wrap it around your TV screen to make it look cool?

Or you could take the corpse of a cat and wrap it around a guitar to make it soft and nice?

Yes, You are right! this is not correct! this should be closed, I'm sure that this site was not made to learn how to mutilate and use real animals. Next time Show us a instructable about how you killed your self! It would be more interesting.
If you don't like it, don't read it. It's liberals like you that get things you don't like censored for everyone. There are tons of things I don't like. So naturally if I see something I don't like on the internet...logically I don't read it. Maybe you should try doing the same before forcing your views on others. To you this mouse corpse is for some reason sacred. To some of us, it's a dead pest...and more to the point already dead. Taxidermy has been practiced for centuries, and this is no different. Honestly I find the pun very clever. I wouldn't want a mouse like this, but that's beside the point.
Oh please. Next you'll tell me that we shouldn't put buildings on ground because that's "mutilating" and "using"  mother earth. The mouse was already dead and even if it wasn't, there's plenty more. Humans are the top of the food chain and quite frankly, if it's your artistic vision to put a real mouse inside a computer mouse I say more power to you.
