Mouse Settings to Streamline Tabbed Browsing

I will show you how to configure your mouse buttons to make tabbed browsing more efficient. With these settings you will be able to quickly move between tabs, create new tabs, close current tabs, and close the webrowser or any other program with a single mouse click. This can works with any mouse that has left and right clicking of the scroll wheel. I will be using Logitech's MX Revolution in this instructable, but this would work with many other mice.

Step 1: Requirements

Gather the necessary equipment and software.

I use a completely different setup with my MX revolution. Scroll wheel is left for scrolling, the the thumbwheel and side buttons are set up for tabbing. Thumb-up is ctrl-tab, thumb-down is ctrl-shft-tab, thumb-click is ctrl-w, top-side is crtl-t, lower-side is ctrl-shift-t. This setup lets me create, close and reopen tabs, as well as flipping through tabs, without ever touching the keyboard, and without losing any scrolling functions. Middle-click of course opens links in a new tab, and scroll-mode-shifting I leave in velocity-dependent mode (because unless you need to scroll REALLY fast, freewheel mode is more a hindrance than a help). With this setup I can easily browse with multiple windows and 300+ tabs with no problem.

Sounds good. I have tried several different configurations and this one works best for me. This setup also lets me maintain scrolling function. I have tried the thumb wheel for switching tabs, but I have had a similar setup with other mice for years and it was hard for me to switch. My previous mice didn't have a thumb wheel.
