By now I'm sure everyone and their grandmother has seen the Dizzy Dee microwave chocolate cake in a mug. However, whenever I've made it, I've found it to be somewhat gelatinous and, quite frankly, not really chocolatey. In its stead, here's a brownie recipe that I've been using for a while and with which I've gotten MUCH better result. Note: This really is more for those of you who prefer "fudgey" brownies to "cakey" ones.

Ingredients:
4 Tablespoons Flour
4 Tablespoons Sugar
2 Tablespoons Cocoa powder (Note: don't use cocoa mix or quik, it shouldn't have any sugar)
2 Tablepsoons Vegetable Oil (Don't use one with a strong flavor, eg olive, sesame, etc)
2 Tablespoons Water
Dash of salt
Mug
Microwave

Step 2: Microwaving

Microwave on high for roughly a minute. You may have to microwave it longer or shorter, depending on your microwave, but the brownie should still be wet in the center when done.

Step 3: Nomming

It's done! Let it cool, grab a spoon, and dig in straight from the mug.

I recommend adding a scoop of ice cream for maximum deliciousness.

Hey guys I made this mug brownie recipe but it turned out like a spongy slimy mess, not sure why.

Here is how I tweaked it from using the comments and it turned out perfect, nice and flavorful with the best texture. These are all things you will find in your common household kitchen:

(Mix the wet and dry ingredients in separate bowls, add the liquids to the dries and stir thoroughly with a wisk then pour into an evenly portioned mug. Cook for 50 seconds in the microwave, then in 10 second intervals until its not super gooey looking.)

Dry:

-4 tbs. all purpose flour
-3 tbs. cane sugar
-1 tbs. brown sugar
-1 tbs. cocoa powder
-1 tbs. hot cocoa mix
-small pinch of salt
-small pinch of baking powder

Wet:

-1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
-2 tbs. milk (I used 2%)
-2 tbs. hot melted butter

Has anyone ever experimented with substituting plain Greek yogurt for the fat (oil and/or butter)?
Yes i just did this with melted butter instead of oil. I also put 1/4 tsp of vanilla in with the water. Quite delicious. I wish I had ice cream to put on top!

It tasted like FLOUR!! but in some cases it was good just maybe 2 tbsp. of flour?

were you using corn flour :P?

this was so good i made an account to comment. i did change a few things, like 1 of the tablespoons i did hot cocoa mix instead of cocoa powder, instead of the oil i used melted butter, and i used milk instead of water. i also put some chocolate chips on top until they melted and spread them around till it was like frosting. MMMMMM!!!!!!coudnt have been better(but i would to 1/8 tsp of salt instead of a dash because the 1st time i did to much because it wasnt clear but other than that it was the most delicious thing ive ever had!!!)definently will satisfy your brownie craving. :D

THE MOST AMAZING EVER! i chop and change it a little every now and again after 7days of a repetitive taste!! like i substitute the water for milk and some vanilla essence and some cocoa for coffee! pretty much anything works here. Again: AMAZING

I love it and my family loved it. It's fantabulous!!!!!!

Just tried it , my oil made it taste nasty. I think it was expired. :( but besides that it was pretty good. I loved the amount of chocolate and I loved the texture. Mmmmmmm,...... Love it,

I had high hopes from this recipe but it gave me a ducking stomach ache. Smells and tastes floury. I followed the instructions to the T but sadly, it came out horrible. The texture was not bad but the taste was. Imma try it with some variations and see if it works.

Best brownie in a mug that I've ever made. I drizzled chocolate syrup on top and it made it even better.

Add me to the list of people who signed up to comment on this. I bake a lot, especially brownies, so I think I know my stuff well enough. Just made it with the following adjustments:
-Melted butter
-Milk instead of water
-1/8 tsp of salt instead of a dash
-Added 1/4 tsp of instant coffee powder... I do this for all my chocolate baked goods, it adds a lot to the chocolate flavour and won't taste like coffee if you don't add too much.
-Scaled back the sugar to about 3 tbsp
-Added maybe 1/2 tbsp more of cocoa because I like my chocolate chocolatey
-Also added about 1/2 tsp vanilla... I thought it actually said to do that in the recipe, but got it mixed up with one I saw before, oops
-Finally, I threw some chocolate chips on top.
Anyway, it turned out fantastic, probably the best microwave brownie/cake recipe I've tried with regards to texture, possibly the best-tasting too. I would definitely not add the amount of sugar as written in the recipe, though the chocolate chips I added did of course add some sweetness. You'll have to experiment to find the level of sugar you like. Guess that just means you'll be making lots of brownies ;)
My suggestions to people who have had a hard time with it:
Add the liquid ingredients first. It will make it much easier to stir dry ingredients into wet than the other way around.
Add the dry ingredients a bit at a time, mixing between each addition. I added about 1-2 tbsp at a time.
If you're not an experienced baker enough to make adjustments, follow the recipe exactly. Since you're making such a small quantity, even adding the slightest bit more flour can throw the whole thing off. I had to increase the amount of milk I used by a little bit to compensate for the extra cocoa powder.
Mix with a fork, not a spoon! It's a lot better at getting things properly mixed and breaking up clumps.
This makes a THICK batter. Be prepared to work a little. It will take some time for all the ingredients to incorporate, but they will, promise.
Mix until it's kind of shiny and all the dry lumps are gone. Then mix some more. This instructable should really include a picture of the finished batter so people can see what it looks like. And no matter which order you put the liquid/dry in, some dry stuff WILL stick to the bottom, so make sure you churn it up good! MIX MIX MIX.
Make it in the biggest mug you have!
I suggest microwaving for 50 seconds, then 10 second intervals if it's not done. Everyone's microwave is different. Mine took about 1:20 because I have a terrible microwave.

How much butter did you add?
Changing the other ingredients you did makes that measurement pretty important I would think. And I'm not a good enough chef yet to work it out as I go along.

I just did a 1:1 substitution for the vegetable oil, so 2 tbsp. of butter. I don't know if that's "proper" but it worked just fine for me :)

Honestly I'm not really able to say exactly how much other measurements should change when you mess with the recipe. I pretty much just added small splashes of milk until the batter looked "right" and it worked. Judging stuff like that is something that comes with practice. Luckily this recipe is hard to over-mix. At the end it should look smooth with no lumps and shiny, like the picture of the finished batter in the recipe (which I missed for some dumb reason when I wrote that review). And while in my original review I said the batter is very thick, the second time I made it the batter was quite a bit more workable, maybe I added more milk or something? It was perfectly tasty both times though.
I'm not exactly a five-star chef, I've just made a loooooot of brownies. :)

So good! Add semi sweet chocolate chips on top and powder sugar and its REALLY good. Oh and dont eat it like right away or else it will harden mine did at least, i made it twice so the next time i let it cool. i think if i were to substitute the water for milk it would turn out even better!

it works better for me if I make mine in a bowl. I noticed your mug is HUGE lol. cooking it in a narrow mug wouldn't be the same. it turns out perfect!

a little baking soda goes a long way... just a little makes it a little less fudge like and more in the middle. OH YEAH, mix the ingredients first in a bowl and spray your mug with cooking spray. makes clean up easier! i lurve this recipe... especially when dessert options run low, as they frequently do.

almost spewed and gave me a bad stomach ache.. after the first mouthful i had to ask my self how the f#@& will i clean this mug. 10 points for trying though. i guess.. just be sure not to whip this recipe out umm ever!
I doubled the recipe, and added two tbsp of peanut butter(ate it regular way too) and it was delicious both ways! My six year old says its her new favorite treat, even better than candy she says lol.

I had such a craving for chocolate tonight, and a candy bar wasn't going to do it. I looked up this mug brownie recipe (I've tried the mug cakes and it's almost always a hit or miss) to try out.

This recipe seemed simple and quick. I followed suggestions of halving the recipe, which was a good thing, because the few hot spoonfuls of this with some cold vanilla ice cream hit the spot just right.

I did a couple things different: used brown sugar instead of white, added about 1 1/2 Tbsp of Nutella, dash of vanilla, mixed it all in a small soup bowl using a whisk, microwaved it for 30 seconds on high (my microwave is an 1100watt oven), then nuked it for additional 15 seconds when it seemed too wet.

I didn't mix the nutella all the way, marbled it across the batter, and it turned out great because there were streaks of nutella that's had baked up into a shiny crust, like a brownie would've. In retrospect, I should've decreased the sugar (or eliminated it completely) since I had the nutella..turned out very sweet. But that also may be the brown sugar..I don't mind experimenting again!

And yes, any warm dessert MUST be eaten with ice cream.
Little purple baking girl, I did it your way so I did a sub of butter for oil and I also read the other comments and put milk instead of water. Then I made the mistake of adding the baking powder that you told everyone to use. THE BROWNIE EXPLODED IN THE MICROWAVE!!!!!! I tried it again without the baking powder and it was perfect. I have a suggestion for everyone. I suggest to do it in a bowl first and then tip it into the mug so you know if you have mixed it properly and to sieve the flour and cocoa powder. I also think you should check out yoyomax12 on youtube she is amazing and does really good tutorials that are quick and straight to the point.   https://www.youtube.com/user/yoyomax12
These brownies are fantastic. I really enjoyed it when the sun was obliterated by swirling storm clouds and locusts began falling from the Heavens. Provided perfect atmosphere for me to begin my morning ritual of summoning The Dark Prince through my microwave. As the first bubbles ascended I could already see the brownie mix hardening into a rock-solid vessel for Lucifer. Never have I used such a perfect recipe for all my demon-summoning needs, Betty Crocker comes second on my ritual list now, thank you.
This is sooooo good I made an account JUST to comment! I have a suggestions for you all. I did basically the recipe with a sub of melted butter for veggie oil. Yes it tastes like brownie, but really, it was a small amount and very little. I added a half of a tablespoon of baking power...and voila!!! It was puffy like any brownie. Than I left it in the fridge overnight to harden and finish (this is not needed, it's a tradition) and it was the BEST BROWNIE EVER. I am one of the worst cooks, and I can make this perfectly. Let me say, whoever whoever made this is a genius!
Oh yeah and make sure you mix it really well... I ended up with a layer of flour at the bottom, but it was still delicious!
