Why make a Harry or Luna bag? Because they are FUN and useful!

These little bags are about 20x15 cm big. You can use them for pretty much anything, I prefer using them as pencil cases or makeup-bags. This is a super easy diy done with felt-fabric but no sewing at all.

Step 1: Step 1: Supplies

What you need for this project is:

  • Scissor
  • Hot glue gun
  • Templates (Download the template images from the "intro"-step), (You can if you want change the size of the templates to make a smaller/bigger bag, then you just need to remember to get at zipper in a different size also, other than that you can follow the steps anyways).
  • Zippers (9 inch/22 cm)
  • Felt fabric in the colors you can see in the pictures. Different colors depending if you want to do Harry or Luna or both.

Step 2: Step 2: Cut and Trace

So the first thing you want to do is to cut out the templates as the first picture shows. Then you trace these on to the creme colored felt fabric. Put the cut out pieces aside. Then you trace the templates again, this time on black or yellow felt fabric depending on if you do Harry or Luna. These second pieces will become the backside of the bags later on, so it's the "back of the head" so to speak.

Step 3: Step 3: Cut Out the Scarves

Now you cut out the template as seen in the first picture. Then you can either trace these on to the felt fabric with chalk, marker or pencil, or you can simply just stick them on there with sewing pins. Also using an adhesive spray can work but this will leave your fabric a bit stiff. Once you've cut out the pieces for the scarves as in the pictures you can put these aside for the moment.

Step 4: Step 4: Cut Out the Details

Next thing to do is cutting out the glasses, start with cutting out the paper template then sticking them on to the felt fabric and then cut out the pieces needed for the bags. For the Luna glasses it's not necessary to cut out the round pieces, although cutting them out gives nice templates for the round pieces that you glue on to the glasses later on. However I don't cut out the circles in the actual fabric, I just simply glue the round pieces on top of the glasses.

Here you can see that I used an adhesive spray for the Luna glasses but sewing pins for the Harry glasses. They both work out fine, so really it's up to you which method you want to use.

Also, cut out the hairlines and the scar.

Step 5: Step 5: Place Out the Pieces

As you can see in the pictures it's time to place out the pieces. After you place them out and are happy with it, it's time to get the hot glue gun out. Glue all the pieces stuck and make sure to try and stick them all the way out on the edges.

Step 6: Step 6: Zipper Time!

Now, when you glue the zipper on with the hot glue gun try to make sure to not get any glue stuck in the actual zipper, since this will cause trouble when zipping/unzipping the bag later on.

Step 7: Step 7: Still Zippers.

Once you glue the front side on to the zippers, get out the back-pieces that you cut out in the beginning. Glue these on to the other side of the zipper as you can see in the pictures. Once you've done this you should open the zippers to make the next step much easier.

Step 8: Step 8: Fold and Glue

Now you take the backside and fold it onto the front side, make sure that it's the "wrong" side out when you do this since you're gonna turn the bag inside out once done glueing. So, make sure to glue the sides and the bottom line shut. When you're done glueing make sure to check for any holes or "weak" spots and glue these a little extra.

Step 9: Step 9: Finished

Turn your bag/bags inside out and check the zipper so it works. Now you're done and you have your own Harry or Luna bag, or both.
