Music + Paint = cheap artistic goodness

I dont consider myself to be a true "artist" by any means, but that sure hasn't stopped me from dabbling. After all, who hasn't gotten inspired on a rainy day to bust out the old box of paints and give the creative thing a whirl? The problem is, it can be an expensive hobby in which to indulge one's self. As a musician, I often find myself with excess gear that I have picked up along the way, and so I thought it might be interesting to combine two of my creative loves into one act of artisticness (artism? artsitude? artonomousness?).

Anyway, I have found old drumheads to be the perfect 'canvas' on which to direct my creativity. They are cheap, completely functional, easily hang-able and widely available. I guarantee you that if you swing by your local instrument shop or ask around on craigslist, you will have no trouble finding plenty of these lying around, and they can save you a pretty penny and plenty of trips to your local arts and crafts store. I thought it was a good idea, so I'll share some of the "paintings" I have made with them. Hope it inspires you.
