This is a Mini stove that i built using NK5s' instructable Mostly i did a slide show to show NK5 and a few others some pictures (i didnt want to crowd his comments with my pics)
I did make a few little changes, i used cotton balls and rubbing alcohol (instead of HEET and fiberglass) I used a candle to preheat for about 1 minute. At first it made a huge flame after about 5min or so it died down. While putting on the lid the top tore, adding another hole for flame to come out.

this is not an instructable nor is it intended to be thats why its a slide show

UP DATE (new pics posted may not be up for and couple hours)
I made a new lid, and further moded the inside. The new lid has fewer holes, using 3 different sizes. The inside has a thin layer of cotton at the bottom covered in a thin layer of steel wool (#0000) and then a cotton ring on top the idea is the bottom cotton layer will never need changed and the top ring will last for at least 3 full burns.
new use: ROAST MARSHMALLOWS!!!!

The holes in the sides are too big. You also only need one hole in the top to pour alcohol in. The side cracked because you didn't stretch out the top and/or crimp the sides of the inside can. (click here to see crimping)
Hope this helped :)

Is it okay to mix different fuels? not purposefully, but lets say i used HEET one day, but I ran out, and decided to use rubbing alcohol instead. Would this be okay?

Yeah that's fine any form of alcohol should work and will evaporate any way.
Heet is antifreeze (alcohol)

Is it safe to eat roasted marshmallows on a stove that uses HEET? It says that the vapors are poisonous...
junits15 in reply to Crakamiester93Nov 13, 2009. 3:01 PM
they are poisonous to breathe in, but once they are burnt they are fine

i used rubbing alcohol so i wasnt concerned, to be on the safe side i wouldnt if your using any thing else.

The only thing is steel wool will rust (rather quickly from the increased surface area) and possibly contaminate your stove. (food too?)

the hole in the middle is fixed by a screw or a pot killing that evil flame hole cheers and have fun with the MARSHMALLOWS
ownedintheface says: Jul 14, 2009. 1:12 PM
can you use rubbing alcohol instead?
i make shooting things (author) in reply to ownedinthefaceJul 16, 2009. 6:25 PM
Yep, thats use most of the time. But you can get denatured alcohol at any Home depot or Lowes.

... what is HEET?
Microtek in reply to whitedem0nDec 13, 2008. 9:33 PM
HEET is a Gas Line Antifreeze and Water Remover made to put in your car during winter months to avoid freeze up.

We sell these at www.Microtek.MyBisi.com for $10.00 for those of you that want one...

interesting but to me making it your self for free is more rewarding. is your design empty on the inside or do u use fiberglass? And using a penny/dime to cover the fill holes is a great idea.
Microtek in reply to i make shooting thingsDec 13, 2008. 9:30 PM
A few of our friends weren't too handy so we started selling em. We tried the insulation but found it to be a waste of money(and itchyness). Ours is hollow. When full, they'll burn 15-20 minutes, and hot enough to boil water (on denatured alcohol). The best way to get them started is the "spilling-fuel-all-around-it" method.(lots of videos on youtube on 'lighting your penny stove'). Once the fuel starts to boil(you can hear it), cover the center hole with a coin and you burn only the fuel vapors.

Try putting some oil in the middle of the steel wool and the cotton ring it will burn longer and hotter (or if you put too much oil and don't let in enough air it will explode).

I just tested my new stove based on your design. When I was building i found a way to fit the two cans together with out making the inner can's wall bend at all. But unfortunately it is impossible to separate the two cans to replace the top ring of cotton. I had to drill out the fill holes to make one large fill hole 1/4 inch to remove all the cotton and steel wool from inside. Other than that it worked great and had a good size flame. Nice Pictures. I can't wait for the next time i go camping!

I have to agree it's dangerous to roast marshmallows (and eat them) over an aluminum can stove
i make shooting things (author) in reply to whitedem0nMay 29, 2008. 2:46 PM
i used alcohol fuel so i wasnt concerned i had already sanded off paint and are there not cooking pots made of aluminum?

I just wanted to clarify. A few other slide shows were getting trashed. Saying they should not be an instructable and should be deleted, missing that it was never meant to be an instructable and was meant to be a slide show.

Thanks. Let me know if you try this, id be cool if we could have like a photo album of peoples mini stoves. It takes 10 min and you dont have to waist any coke (or other drink).
