Good news everyone,

Remember my friend, the one who ask me to build her a shoe rack:

Well, she was complaining about not having a proper space to keep her wine so she ask me if I could help. After some consideration we both agreed that the space under her dining table was a good place to keep her wine.

Step 1: Materials

Well, I couldn't simpler, I'm using:

a bunch of 2"X1" I'm using maple but you can use pretty much anything;
#6 2" wood screw;
2.5 corrigated glued roof support (I explain later);
wood glue.

For tools I used:

power drill;
1/4" drill bit;
3/32"drill bit;
Phillips bit.

Step 2: Design

I'm no woodworker, I'm really curious and not afraid to try and make mistakes. This project its pretty simple: 3 shelves supported by 4 uprights with some cushion for the bottles.

Another thing I would like to learn is how to draw properly. LOL

I had for useful space under the table a "cube" measuring 15"H X 16"W X 14"D ,
so I end up building the rack with 14"H X 161/2"W X 7"D

Step 3: Let's Make Some Cuts !!!

I had a very specific need regarding height and width, you can adapt the measures according to your need. The case and the rails should remain the same.

We are going to need the following:

4X 14" from the 2" x 1" (its really 1_1/5" x _3/4");
6X 15" from the 2"X 1";
6X 4" from the 2"X 1";

Step 4: Assembling the Shelves

We are going to make three (3) three shelves using, for each one, 15" (2X) and 4"(2X). Place like th epictures, apply glue on the sides and hold it tight with the clamps. Once is dry we can put some screws just to make sure things will be in place.

Step 5: Assembling the Uprights

Once you have all your shelves ready we can start installing the uprights.
I learn to love clamps, they help you keep things in place, and there is a right angle clamp that I never understood how could I live without it. LOL

With the clamp in place I can mark and drill the holes for the screws.

I decide to make the screws flush, for that I first drill with the 3/32 bit, so the screws wouldnt break the wood, then I drill about 1/2" deep with the 1/4" drill so the screw head would fit inside the wood.

later on apply some wood filing, some sanding and stain to match the dining table color

So, for each leg did that, starting with the bottom shelf and after that the third one. I decide leave the second one for last because then I would have the uprights straight (my opinion).

Step 6: The Foam

Now, lets get to the funny part of this project.

I was ding some research (including instructables itself) and I needed something to actually hold the bottles. I found some corrugated roof support at home depot, made out of wood. When I got there to buy it could onl find the one made out of foam. Turns out it was perfect, it would give some cushion to the bottles :) I was happy.

Step 7: Installing the Foam

The ideia is simple: Cut the foam at the top pf the wave, so you can ajust the distance between the bottles.

The way I did, because space restrictions, was to leave 1/2" space on both ends and 1"between foam pads. Because I have 4 on each rack I end up, at the center with 1 1/2"space, what is good because not al bottles are make alike :)

You will understand when you check the pictures :)

Step 8: Final Product

As a final touch, dont forget to install some felt on the bottom, this will avoid scratches on the furniture. LOL

Step 9: Extra Steps

If you know my instructables already you know that I would never finish like that. LOL

Another thing I am planning is to stain so it would match the table's color. In order to do that I have to get rid of the holes.

I just applied some wood filler, let it dry and than sand. It looks better already.

wait for after I have it stained :)
