My wooden sword

: oak blade, poplar handle and pommel, hand carved bass guard, routed blood groove. the completing steps would be: spray with grain filler, spray blade high gloss silver, spray pommel and guard low gloss or flat silver spray enamel entirely with enamel, glue guard to base of blade,and then sew the faux leather onto the handle

reminds me of a sword from lord of the rings, can't remember the owner of the sword though, my brother has a metal version of this sword

thats a realy beautiful pice of wood work, one thing though, how did you fix the blade and handle together and is it a strong sword or just for display only?

Sorry about not replying fast, haha I've been in Italy, the sword is attached to the handle using ordinary wood glue and the sword is very strong but designed for display. I'm too scared to put it to the test because I put so much time into it.

i would love to make one but it might be pointless i made the thing with a bandsaw a knife a scraper and a hell of a lot of sand paper, i,ve been designing swords since i was 10 so i know what to put in to one. and this is cliche but practice makes perfect i tried 3-4 times before this

Very nice! Laminated wooden wasters are structurally strong and beautiful. I commend you on your work! If you were interested in making a waster of a more realistic weight and balance to a real sword, you could consider adding lead weights.

to answer you tacamaral it was one piece for the blade attached to two handle slabs, a full-tang if you will. which kinda answers question 2 the handle slabs are attached with wood glue

here are the dimensions, later i'll make the instuctable but APs are looming and i don't have time. -blade: 36 1/2" long, 2 1/4" wide, 1/4" deep, 31" blood groove 1" tappering to 1/2" wide 1/16" deep -guard:11" long, 1 1/4" wide, arms are 4 1/4" long, 6/10" wide, guard 1 1/2" deep, arms 3/4" deep - hole: 2 1/4" long by 1/4" wide -Handle:7 1/2" long by 1 1/2" wide tappering to 1" wide by 1" deep -pommel: 3" long by 2 3/4" wide by 2 3/4 " deep need anything else just ask. here are the pics:
