Introduction: Narwhal Amigurumi With Design

I am a big fan of the narwhal, or the unicorn of the sea.  This almost mythical looking creature is just so cool that I had to make one for the baby's room.

Designing your own amigurumi can be fun and it's not that hard.  All you have to do is break your piece into elements.  Amigurumi are composed of spheres, half spheres, tubes, and cones.  I broke down my narwhal into the head, half sphere, body, tube, tail, cone, fins and tail pieces were half sphere, cone and tube, and the horn was a tube.

I first sketched out the design and then made notes as I went.  The sketch is useful because you can refer back to it when calculating how many rows, for example i wanted the body and tail to be roughly the same amount of rows, whereas the head was about 1/3 of the size of the body or the tail.

I've included the pattern as well as a picture of my design and some of the elements.
