Nerf Gun Modification 101

Step 4Upgrading: Last Part

Upgrading: Last Part
Last thing to do is to plug up the hole on the bottom of the beginning of the barrel. You'll want to be very careful when you do this. It's right after the orange cylinder, and keeps the pressure inside the dart from getting "out of control." What this thing does it take all your compressed air that your spring just made, and throw half in the trash. Sealing this hole will allow you to throw more air in the dart, applying more force and shooting it faster and farther. This is what will really help you welt your friends.

Do this by using some sort of really good epoxy or silicone gasket maker. First make sure the whole and surrounding surface is clean. Then very carefully, kind of work it in the hole but not through it. If you use too much, it will stop the round from moving. If you use too much on the outside, it won't go back in the cylinder when you pull the bolt back.

Just wondering if you could do these steps in any order or do some without others.

Thanks.

Also, you need to remove the air restricter. You see it if you look down the part where the dart goes, around the base of the peg. it actually pushes on the dart to launch it. It must be removed. when you look through the big orange cylinder, see the thing with 3 prongs on it. break those prongs, and pull out the thing it was attaching. if you can't get to it, push the part where the dart goes into the cylinder. it will push the piece with 3 prongs closer to the end of the cylinder. when you break the prongs, pull out the round piece in the middle, and a spring and the Air restricter should fall out. now, you should be able to see all the way through it. This will improve the ranges by 10-20 ft, but you can now damage things if you dry fire it (fire the gun without any dart in it).

Theres also a chemical called M.E.K Methyl Ethyl Keytone, it will basically melt the plastic which works well, you can get it at home depot, also syringes from your local drug store, yes actual needle ones are good for dispensing thin amounts of the mek

couldn't you use electrical tape?
May 9, 2009. 8:10 AMMatt526 says:
yes you can. just use 1 layer

Electrical tape works just fine, you just have to make sure that the tape lies perfectly flat.

What about putting a small piece of paper over the hole, then using epoxy?

Places such as Home Depot and Lowes carry RTV silicone and Epoxy putty. You can get it from there pretty cheap (about $3). Remember that you have a one-shot chance in it though, it dries up to rock-hard in about 2 minutes or so. And also lightly smooth it and cover it.

E tape works fine but don't go over 2 layers of it or else the parts won't move

A picture would be nice... And if you want welts (on your soon to be ex-friends), you'll need to remove the AR's so you can use stefans. The rubber tips on the streamlines don't hurt, even with a modded LS.

Hey Pinstripe, im having problems with where you mean to add the epoxy, could you post one of post-epoxying? thanks if you can

I got a saudering iron (however that's spelled) and melted the edges of the hole. I then took some ABS plastic lying around and put it over the thin layer. Filed it down after that.
