My dad has always been a serious music lover and has one of the largest and broadest collections i have ever seen.  He recently told me that he has too many CDs and not enough space for them as they are, in the jewel cases.  So, he wanted to tranfer them to paper sleeves, and find suitable shelving for them.  The shelves needed to be efficient, yet allow him to flip though all of his music and read the titles through the clear front of the paper sleeves.

This is what I came up with.  It started out as an open faced, Ikea like medicine cabinet; the kind you'd use if you only have a mirror in your bathroom.  I added two doors that swing down, each with three sepertate bins to hold CDs.  The cabinet holds about three hundred paper sleeves.  When the doors are closed, the CDs sit stacked on top of each other vertically taking up very little space.   When you open the doors, the CDs are then facing you, ready to be looked through.  As you can tell from the photos, I used less than ideal materials; in the end though, I had everything I needed laying around the house and didn't have to buy anything, except a couple cans of black spray paint.

The first photo shows it open from the front.  The third photo shows the inside from the back, when the front doors are closed.

This is my first post and if I had thought i was going to post it, I would have taken photos of the construction so i could also explain the process beginning to end.   The pictures I have taken are a little dark but I think you can see what I was trying to accomplish.  Anyway, let me know what you think, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Have fun and keep building.
