I've followed your instructions, but when I plug the DS into my macbook pro it says I am drawing too much power and it will shut down my usb hub. No orange light appears on the ds.

Alternatively, I've tried on a PC laptop with no result either. Any ideas?

no, a dsi uses 4.6 volts, you'll need a resistor in line to drop the voltage to 4.6v

would this also serve as a gba battle cable for emulater to gba? ( i use oringinal ds) btw great instructable.

i doubt it, as im only using power wires, but if its as simple as connecting up the data wires as well, then yes, i personally only need it to charge my DS from a laptop, so I don't have to lug around a whole plug as well (:
