Numb Nuts bike seat

Recover that old, ratty mountain bike seat, including a *Trendy* slot in the seat.

Step 1: Padding

Start with a ratty old bike seat.
Cut out some closed cell foam to fit the contour of the seat. (I used a scrap from some shop-floor padding, camping pad would be better.) Don't worry about getting it perfect, you will trim it later.
Cut out a slot in the top of the foam. Your *Special* artery will thank you!
Use a dab of superglue to stick the front and rear of the padding to the old seat.

Step 2: Cut Some Covering

I chose to cover the foam with a scrap of suade from another (unfinished) project. You could use just about any kind of tough cloth, leather will have a little stretch to conform to the shape of the saddle.
Sketch out a line around the saddle, leaving about an inch of extra.

Step 3: Punch Holes

Punch some holes around the edge of the suade. I used one of those leather punch pliers that punch several sizes. It broke, so the Swiss Army Knife came to the rescue... as usual.

The nail is just there to help push the lacing through the holes.

Step 4: Lace it Up

You could use anything to lace up the covering. I used 1/4" wide strips cut from an inner tube. Pull them through the holes and tie the ends together. Start from the middle and work toward both ends.
Remember to leave access for a seatbag as you lace it up. Mine attaches to that plastic bracket on the seat rails.

Step 5: Finish it up.

Once it was mounted on the bike, I soaked the suade with some water. I'm not sure that was necessary, but I figured it would stretch out some, then shrink tigher than before. It didn't hurt anything anyway.
y not glue it down to the bottom instead of lacing it
or use staples

The hole in the middle of the seat is to releive pressure on ones prostate. It's a godsend when you have an enlarged prostate (because you're getting older, or you used steroids...)

Your prostrate is a good fingers length up INSIDE your bum... So how can a tiny slot in a saddle relive the pressure?

Indeed, but don't forget that between where you sit on a bike seat, and the prostate there is a layer of "meat" (for lack of a better word)... When sitting on a bike seat this "meat" gets compressed which in turn squishes the prostate. No big deal for young folks, rather uncomfortable for older men. Also uncomfortable for pro cyclists who spend days on their bikes. And thats why they call bike seats with the middle missing "prostate savers"
I have a huge urethra, AND itS THANKFUL for the channel in my seat. if y ou have ever sat on a bar stool for hours drinking then get up later to pee you know exactly what im talking about
Why get up to pee?

I thought the slot was to let the farts out... in a more concentrated stream, for the secret pleasure of farting into the faces of the riders behind you.. Just think, all the riders from the other team, sniffing molecules of your feces.
I've always worried about saddles with holes ... SPD testicles, anyone? (-P Seriously, I like it. Will try it next time I find an old saddle.

Or have hemmoroids caused by being hit with a Camero while riding a bike. -true story-

Because I've never had a seat with a slot. Maybe it really is more comfortable. And it was about 10 seconds of extra work. Finally, it allowed me to call this project "Numb Nuts" which is cool. :)

Why did you add the hole if you think they're just trendy? I like them, use them, but i mean if you don't believe in them why go through all the extra work?
