OLD HOOKAH/SHISHA OIL LAMP

OLD HOOKAH/SHISHA OIL LAMP
http://www.instructables.com/id/EGYHPHXZ45ETVPLWFT/
Alright, so I was stumbling about instructables.com and saw an instructable of how to make a lamp from one of those hotel shampoo bottles seen here: http://www.instructables.com/id/EGYHPHXZ45ETVPLWFT/
kudos CanDo. Anyways, I'm a broke fellow that doesnt really GO to hotels to collect the little shampoo bottles (Although I would if I could.) So I searched my house for stuff I could use to make an oil lamp... Better to have a non stop burning lighter for those special times *cough*420*cough* of the day. I found an old Nargillah/Hookah I had bought a few years ago and sadly I left water in it for a few months, and it completely rusted.

NOTICE: This ofcourse, is fire, and kids, don't play with fire.
I don't want to get sued by smokey the bear because you
decided to be stupid and burn down your house/little
brother/sister. BE CAREFUL!

Stuff you need:
1 (preferably) used nargillah/hookah
1 pair of old jeans
scissors
Oil (canola, Olive etc...)
Some sewing string and a sewing needle
Pointy plyers

First step:

Cut the jeans about 15" long (Depending on hookah size, but make sure you cut enough so it goes through the hookah all the way down to the glass) and 3/4" wide.

Step 1Cut the ends of the jeans wick you made

Sadly the pic of this came out real bad, not worth the upload. Just take the plyer tip and nick one end of the jeans wick until you have a few seperated strings at the end.

actually it looks safer than the other diy lamp project i saw because its made of metal and at least wont melt like the shampoo bottle . a glass bottle with metal cap would of course be ideal.

actually there is one problem and it is thea jeans have dye in them usually synthetic and that can cause it to burn bad i would use absorbant cotton that is usedin bandages and you can buy it for cheapits sold in a box near the cotton balls

Lenny, Actually read the instructable on shampoo bottle lamp. It can't melt, because all working parts are made of metal, which dissipates and refelects the heat back into the air long before the plastic warms up. If you want the same principle with a glass bottle, just use a nip bottle (keeping with the mini idea) or with something more like this, a wine bottle/beer bottle. If we get a really bad storm and the power is going to be out for a few days, I'll use one of those heavy and WIDE 1 gallon glass wine containers (the wine you cook with?). Should be extremely stable because of its weight and large base, should be able to accomadate a large large wick, and hold more fuel than you'd ever need.

i wonder why i never got a notification on this comment .. oh well. id have replied sooner if i had. i read the instructable on the shampoo bottle lamp{ it was well written and well thought out} the metal parts may indeed prevent the plastic bottle from melting but if it tips all bets are off . dont turn your back on it{or any other open flame source for that matter}. i suggest before you set this on a flammable surface do a long test of it to be sure it wont sag and burn. the idea of using a wide bodied jar to hold a large supply of oil is a good one hopefully you wont have any power outage emergencies to need it but good thinking. i have an old kerosene lamp i got at a yard sale for that purpose and i haven`t had an outtage since i bought it. lol
