Oatmeal Milkshake

Somewhat similar to horchata or a liquified oatmeal cookie, Oatmeal (Avena) Milkshakes are slightly sweet, rich, thick, and spiced with cinnamon. Not only are they seriously delicious, they also make a perfect breakfast on the go or an awesome addition to any meal.

i only have the old fashioned oats not the quick cook ones- would this work?
shesparticular (author) in reply to embochnerNov 26, 2011. 2:32 PM
Yep, they should still work. You may just need to run the blender a little longer and the finished texture may be slightly different - I'm sure it'll still taste great though.

I saw this instructable, and HAD to try it... I love oatmeal, and this is so simple!!

I do have a question, and maybe it's my blender?? How do you get the oatmeal to grind up fine enough (I did let the blender run!), and not settle to the bottom of the glass?

Otherwise this is delicious I skipped the ice and condensed milk (didn't have either one), just used a packet of sweetener.

Blend the dry oats and freeze 1/2 of the milk in ice cube trays.

I don't even like oatmeal, but this sound delicious!

Good job!

I've found that as it sits it does settle, so I usually just stir it back up with the straw. Using the pre-measured packets of oatmeal do help a little since they tend to be more finely ground to start.

Glad you enjoyed it and please remember to vote!

How about if you ran the dry oats in the blender first to grind them finer and then add and blent the rest of the ingredients?

Worth giving it a shot! Thanks!

Ooh, love oatmeal cookies so I may have to try this one out. Love the glass too, where did you get that?
shesparticular (author) in reply to keamcculloughMay 18, 2011. 3:50 PM
Hope you enjoy it! I found the glass at Dominick's (owned by Safeway) about a week ago. If you have them in your area they might have the same or similar. Sadly it's just plastic though, I wish it was actually glass.

I am drinking this as I type. I absolutely love it! I had to make a 1/2 recipe, though, because I only have a Magic Bullet blender. I ground my own cinnamon in a mortar & pestle, and used natural sugar instead of condensed milk.

I rate this a 9 out of 10 for tasty breakfast foods. <3

By the way, where did you get the Pi ice tray?
shesparticular (author) in reply to The LocksmithMay 18, 2011. 3:51 AM
I got mine from ThinkGeek, but it's also available from a number of other sources. It's a silicone ice tray made by Worldwide Fred - they make some seriously awesome stuff.
